but even here our difficulty is often getting people to admit they ARE sick because "they don't want to bother anyone" so you get women (men are wussier) with massive cancerous growths in obvious severe pain, appologising for making a fuss
I have to admit, I don't know much about Australian healthcare(I know more about England), but I have suspicions that there are a lot of reasons as to why their health care is cheaper then ours outside of what we are currently discussing. I also suspect that Australians would act sa you describe, but Americans won't. Women in this country tend to overuse medical services. Men tend to use health services a lot less. It's one of hte reasons that health insurance companies will charge women higher premiums then men. As an example, if I go to the doctor, it's because something is severely wrong. I have occasional heart palpatations. Have for years. I still haven't gotten around to getting that checked out.

I must admit we are a fairly tough lot overall but in truth there are ways of gently discouraging people who are simply trying to get a free ride on the system. It is called the ED waiting room.

But here medical is (mostly) free - Doctors are supposed to "bulk bill" for the patients they see but Doctors being doctors tend to charge more than medicare repays. The system often DOES work out

And those people who are just turning up because of social/psychological reasons are referred to those who CAN help - hopefully - unfortunately it does not always happen that way though

It truly is a bell curve - one end are the ones who almost live in a hospital the other end those who will not go to hospital if their arms fell off and most people are in the middle. You set up systems that will deal with the first - reach out as much as you can to the second

I believe that. Although, I might just be a victim of brainwashing by all those years of Crocodile Dundee.

"3M Co. Chairman, President and CEO George Buckley received more than $14.9 million in total compensation in 2009, up 21 percent from $12.3 million in 2008, according to a regulatory filing." 3M CEO's pay increased 21% in 2009 - Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal

LOL LOL LOL. 21% increase in salary for a company that saw a 15% slide in profits.Fortune 500 Profile - 3M.

How do they pay for that? Slashing jobs and benefits of course. Could it be any more clear?

why did hhs last week exempt 30 megacorps from the obamacare requirement that they offer a minimum of 750K of coverage for each worker?

McDonald's, 29 other firms get health care coverage waivers - USATODAY.com

what's ms sebelius' response gonna be to the next 100 applicants?

    the next 1000?

21% increase in salary after posting a 15.5% loss in profits. Don't ignore the numbers by changing the point.

If they were willing to do that for a single person at the expense of thousands of working folks, of course they are not a fan of providing thier employees with a reasonable health care plan.
    and so it goes...

THAT's why sibelius exempted the 30 and put herself in the spot of having to approve the next countless applicants else demonstrate a double standard?

i would think the obscene salaries of the ceo's would impel her to say no, no?
