Student kills himself after gay sex footage put online

That's all I've been doing, dude.

not true. you haven't posted a single example of a situation involving harassment of gays that any other group that is "different" has suffered.

sure, gays have had "fag" spray painted on their house. I guess that is unique because no other group has "fag" spray painted on their house. but blacks have had "nigger" painted on theirs. the fat kid, or the nerd have had eggs thrown at their house.

replace the word "gay" in any of your examples with any other minority and that group has experienced the exact same thing.

there is nothing "unique" about what gays go thru...except for the word "gay"

That "homos are NOT rounded up by the police for having buttsecks;" it's homophobes that go after gay people, not police. Duh.

In my opinion, i think he overeacted a bit.:scared:

That was in response to his claim of illegality of buttsecks that was really never enforced to begin with.

And no, that doesn't prove mass roundup of gays and sweeping ostracization. All that proved was that over the course of twelve years, you found 5 isolated incidents that keep getting referred to as an epidemic.

Granted, I only went through the first three pages.

Do you have any gay friends? I don't mean that in an angry way, I'm just asking because if you have gay friends, you have to know the kind of things they go through.

It's not that heterosexual people are immune to bullying. It's that what homosexuals go through is unique and we need to protect them. If you don't agree, that's fine, but you should at least see what's happening and not deny it. Do you guys have gay family members? Gay friends? How can you deny the hardships they face?

Does my boyfriend count as a gay friend? I dunno...

Anyway, I grew up gay. I have gay friends. Not many because I really can't stand most homos for the specific fact that they tend to buy into the kind of victim mentality you keep espousing right here. But I can tell you this: I have never seen a gay person deal with anything more dramatic or difficult than anyone else is subjected to in their life. So gay kids get disowned...well guess what: so do kids who date outside their race, get caught smoking pot, or decide not to go to med school when that was their parent's wish.

Gay kids get beat up? Guess what...so do poor kids, retarded kids, kids of different races, fat kids, smart kids, and the kid that can't play baseball as well as his peers. Oh well.

I mean seriously...people need certain protections, but no class of people needs more protection than their peers. Except maybe people that are being ethnically cleansed or something. And you know...gays don't really need to worry about that since they aren't an ethnicity. But if they ever get sent to ovens and cyanide showers, I'll be the first to raise arms against it.

As it stands now...gays don't need jack squat except to be left to their own devices and to learn to integrate into society and live their lives with no apologies or expectations. Acceptance is not a right. It's an earned status.

A tragic loss. He had more to live for. He could have done so much with his life. I understand the embarressment and the effect it can have on an 18 year old. We'll never know how he felt before he lept off that bridge. But I wish he hadn't.

So no one has seen American Pie?

This was a college dorm room prank. Wtf is wrong with you people and all this "evil", "send them to prison and throw away the key" bull****?

Very well said. I'm with you. But I think the gay community deserves to have people looking out for them, regardless of whether or not you think its needed. I don't blame gay people for buying into the victim mentality, because I have no way of knowing what they have and haven't experienced. There's just no way of measuring emotion pain. Hell, there's no way of measuring physical pain. It's different for everybody but I think it's very rash to look down on people who feel they are victims. I'm frustrated by that mentality too but I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

I completely agree that it's hard to determine what kind of bullying is "worse." But you asked if pretending to like music is any different than pretending to like the opposite sex. Of course it's different. You're not going to stay awake at night worrying about how you're going to listen to Lady Gaga, but having to spend every day pretending you're just like everybody else and talking to girls, talking about sex, taking a date to the prom, all that stuff... it's living a lie. That will eat you up inside. It's completely different. You can always point to some kid who's got it worse, but that doesn't negate what homosexuals face.

For all your seeming quick desire to tell people they don't understand the life of a homosexual, you seem severely disconnected of what a life of a geeky or nerdy person is. I can without a doubt say I've never known a single "Dorky" or "nerd" or "geeky" person that is classified as such simply because they like a different type of music than what's "popular". Its usually something that is directly tied to ones personality, ones own self, and touches everything about them. To boil it down to simply "liking other music" is like boiling down faking being straight to "kissing a girl". Its the way you dress, its the things you find enjoyment doing, its what art you find pleasing (or possibly even finding art pleasing at all), its how you talk, its how you act, its what you involve yourself in.

Would it be as hard for a "Geeky" person to just, flat out, in all ways, "Fake" not being geeky as it would be for someone to "Fake" not being homosexual? Maybe not, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was just as difficult of a thing. So much of it is ingroaned personality traits that dictate much of how you act, perceive yourself, and enjoy that is difficult to change regardless of whether or not its the fact that you think guys asses in tight jeans look good or if truly believe that uttering Monty Python lines at any possible relevant moment in an akward way with an unsure voice is the height of comedy.

That doesn't change anything, especially not my viewpoint. A lot of homosexuals will say "it's not so bad," and of course it may be true or it may be that they want to appear strong and normal. They embrace their own identity and that's fantastic. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't recognize what happens to gay people in America and do everything we can to make sure they have equal opportunity and freedom and protection.

No, but it does kind of cut short your long rambling post that was attempting to imply that Jallman should possibly not be stating what he's stating if he just understood or knew the plight of the poor poor homosexual.

You are one of those people that seems to think that treating people differently and giving them special things is somehow the same thing as working to make them "Equals". That's fine and all, but to me 2+2 has never equaled 11 which seems to be the case in your world.

So black people are disowned by their families for being black? No. Did California vote to ban black people from getting married? No. Can you listen to a conversation between any group of teenagers in the country and hear them say "you're so black?" No, but you'll hear them call each other gay all the time. That doesn't mean that gay people are more ostracized than black people, it's just a completely different kind of thing. And I have no idea what your motivation would be for arguing otherwise.

This thread is about a man who killed himself, I don't think it's appropriate to mock homosexuals who feel beyond the reach of help.

You don't seem to be arguing against anything I said. I have every star wars action figure ever made, so I don't think I'm out of touch with the world of nerds. I was picked on a lot in school, I was a fat little boy with breasts and a speech impediment. I'm normal now, my brother is clearly permanently damaged from what he went through as a gay person. And the same is true for the other homosexuals I know, some of whom were kicked out of their houses when they were teenagers. So I think it's appropriate to stand up for those people, and that's all I'm doing.

You're also stereotyping an entire group of people into a victim class based on anecdotal evidence of your own life and acting like it is absolute fact while belittling the experiences of others with other issues that could potentially have had just as hard if not of a worse time than this or any other person that has been bullied. I don't think there's any particular class of people that desperately need others to "watch out for them" save for those individuals who literally and physically can't do so for themselves which is not the case with homosexuals. Does that mean that when they are bullied it shouldn't be dealt with or looked at? Absolutely not. But we shouldn't make it out as if it is some kind of guaranteed route of torture and massive mental anguish that every homosexual will endure to extreme circumstances that we as a society must step up and protect their fragile little selves. The difference is you seem to think of homosexuals as some kind of special victim class that can't help themselves. I see them as people, just like any other person, who have traits about them that are counter to the "popular" culture or the "norm" of society which can make them a target for bullying and should be treated similarly as such, not as some pretty little unique special snowflake that is so vastly different then the rest.

Are there laws against being fat?
Or nerdy?
Cause I remember their being laws against being gay.

Doesnt anti-sodomy cover it?

Sodomy and gay don't necessarily equate to each other. Besides, were they ever enforced? Can you cite any examples of it being used to arrest a person for being gay in the last, say...30 years or so?

Well Lawrence and his partner were arrested.

Again, Lawrence versus Texas.

History of sodomy laws

It happens in other countries as well, there are places you can get your head cut off for being gay.

Gays were rounded up in cuba in some places a while back. Ask Sandokan  he knows all about it.

There are better sources out there but this took me 30 seconds of googling.

I have zero sympathy for anyone that takes their own life. Suicide is the most selfish and weak minded reaction there is.

I'd say this post is a contender. That belief requires a shocking amount of egoism.

Yes, progress. That does not refute my point, however. There are no laws against being fat or nerdy.

Technically, you can be fired for being fat in every state, but you can only be fired for being gay in 29 states. So assuming people had the same moral disproval of obesisty that they have toward gay people, it would be worse to be fat. In reality, people don't really give fat people that hard of a time outside of high school and I don't know any adults who have been beaten up just because they are fat. However, I have known gay adults who have gotten the snot beaten out of them for being gay.

OK, so you guys found two instances where the charges were dropped in one case and overturned in another along with repeal of the anti-sodomy law that wasn't widely enforced anyway.

I'm not finding that to be a shining endorsement of the "it's illegal to be gay" argument. Not at all.
