Re: Meg Whitman Refutes Allegations by Former Housekeeper

The point is that an employer who has every reason to hire only documented workers and thought she had but finds out to her horror nine years later that she is like the other employers she has demonized during her campaign for governor, an employer of undocumented workers.

The point is that until we have comprehensive immigration reform, simplistic blame the workers-, blame the employers-, blame everybody but me-style solutions just prolong the national ordeal and solve nothing.

Whitman is so far behind in the polls now, she's a goner.

Actually TMZ has the documents and have posted them showing that the maid did provide an I9, W4, SSN card and drivers license. Basically, you have a maid that, apparently lied about her imigration status, committed identity theft and, when the maid finally came clean, was fired. After being fired, and apparently for political reasons, she went to Allred (who has a history of this) and filed a complaint.

Rasmussen has Whitman down 48% to 42%. It's still doable, if she would play this commerical over and over again.

I would really like to see a Meg Whitman quote of her stating that employers that follow all of the laws and mistakenly hire an illegal should be decomonized. I don't reside iN CA, so maybe I missed it, but doubt it. If she did say that, I think that's a dumb posistion for her to take.

LOL That's almost as good as this ad. There's nothing better than an endorsement from your opponent.....

Or this one, where Whitman plagerizes Gov. Swartzenegger's word verbatim.....

This has probably been said many times in this thread, but it bears repeating. Illegal aliens can and do get LEGAL tax ID numbers. Nicky was required by the housekeeper's agency that placed her to get a tax ID number. A tax ID number is not a SS number or proof of citizenship, but it serves as a SS so the individual can pay taxes and get tax refunds from the IRS. The IRS's only concern is taxes and not immigration or the legal status of the individual. Read......

IRS issues ITINs to foreign nationals and others who have federal tax reporting or filing requirements and do not qualify for SSNs. A non-resident alien individual not eligible for a SSN who is required to file a U.S. tax return only to claim a refund of tax under the provisions of a U.S. tax treaty needs an ITIN.

Other examples of individuals who need ITINs include:
    • A nonresident alien required to file a U.S. tax return
    • A U.S. resident alien (based on days present in the United States) filing a U.S. tax return
    • A dependent or spouse of a U.S. citizen/resident alien
    • A dependent or spouse of a nonresident alien visa holder

    General ITIN Information

It seems odd to me that on the one hand, it would be illegal for person X to be in the country, but on the other hand, the IRS would be perfectly fine with collecting taxes from them, and having info on them (in the form of whatever info is necessary for these "ITINs" you mention).

Great, I don't like Whitman either, berate her all you want. These at least are good arguments against voting for her as opposed to the whole housekeeper nonsense.

It's a moot point, pardon the pun. She forged a SSN, and that does require legal residence.
