Transgender senior can't be king

Electing a girl as homecoming king has nothing to do with open minds and everything to do with bucking authority. It's what teenagers do. And we let them. This whole thing is ridiculous. And then here comes the ACLU. Freakin' joke. Is it any wonder that kids are in a state of shock when they join the real world??

The very important and distinguished authority of the grand title "Homecoming King?"

Ah, so I take it you've interviewed all of the students and found out their actual reasons for doing so? There's absolutely no reason to suggest what you are asserting here. How do you know that this student isn't popular?

oh ****ing please. so this student is just popular?? then why the hell did they not vote for HER for homecoming QUEEN? they are making a statement by voting for this gender confused kid as KING.

What the ****. from this moment on I want everyone here to refer to me as a black, siberian, one legged midget. to hell with biology. In my mind I picture myself this way, so it must be reality.

You haven't got a clue about this kid or how confused he is or isn't. The point is that he identifies as a male and the students obviously accept him as they voted him for homecoming king. They voted. Get over it.

Using extreme and absurd examples doesn't help your case.

LOL Surgery is not proof. Plenty of disturbed people go under the knife. It only makes the entire thing more sad.

actually if you knew anything you were talking about you'd know that you can't just go up to the surgeon and say make me a girl, You have to spend something like two years time visiting a psychologist every week and get a second opinion then they have to sign paperwork that says the person they have treated definately has Gender Identity disorder and they approve of a sex change operation.

You haven't the slightest clue what you are talking about as usual. What remark can I expect know "Well anyone can go spend two years visiting a Gender phychologist and then fool them into thinking they really have this issue."

If you start looking like a black, siberian, one legged midget, I'll believe you.

Some blackface, a beard, a big furry hat and some surgery oughta' do it. Does he have to get counseling first?

and when this girl gets a Y chromosome I'll start believing she's a man.

There is recondized condition here. It's proper to give the benefit of the doubt and accept that this person has this recognized condition and as such has the gender of male if not the sex.

But it is so minor a thing that adults really should just stay out of it. They should be concerned with saftey and education, and not kings and queens.

Just read up about it, I advise textmaster to do the same since obviously he or she has yet to do so.

They have to first be Diagnosed, Psychotherapy,Hormone treatment, then the surgery. Must be 18 to qualify for surgery, Must have lived as the opposite sex for at least two years and the Psychologist must make the judgment that this person absolutely is of the opposite gender and hasn't even the slightest urge to go back.

So TextMaster, do you think these people are actually going around fooling all the experts with tremendous acting skills or are you going to realize it's actually a legitimate medical condition that isn't take lightly?

None of anyone's freakin' business. Yet here we are.

i think the issue is legitimate to discuss, but as none of us know him/her personally, we have no idea what the mental state is.

they are doing just that, 'cause it's SO MUCH FUN to go through what they go through.

I love how when issues like these arise, everyone thinks that they are a psychological expert.

and when this girl gets a Y chromosome I'll start believing she's a man.

So if she still looked female, but through some futuristic genetic surgery, obtained a Y chromosone to replace the X, you'd call her male?

so what if it is a legitimate medical condition. it still doesn't make her a man.

man

1. an adult male person, as distinguished from a boy or a woman.

9. a male having qualities considered typical of men or appropriately masculine: Be a man. The army will make a man of you.

male

1. a person bearing an X and Y chromosome pair in the cell nuclei and normally having a penis, scrotum, and testicles, and developing hair on the face at adolescence; a boy or man.

Sorry, nothing about man trapped in woman's body.

by definition: If you do not have X and Y chromosome you are not male. If you are not male you cannot be a man.

But that's the thing, normally a person has all the right parts. We're talking about that 0.01% that doesn't, though.

Dude, I'm gonna have to go with the DSM-IV here. They've been studying this thing for a while.

I agree.

Theories suggest that childhood issues may play a role in this disorder, such as the parent-child relationship at an early age and the identification a child is able to make with the parents of the same gender.

nothing about being "born that way" or any physical basis

Symptoms

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A strong and persistent identification with the opposite gender. There is a sense of discomfort in their own gender and may feel they were ‘born the wrong sex.’

they identify with a gender that is not their own (aka thsi girl is a girl she just identifies with male gender) and are not comfortable in THEIR OWN GENDER. (she is still a girl)

nothing here that proves she is a he.

normally has the right parts but ALWAYS has the Y chromosome. this is not like a hermaphrodite where she/he has both parts and a choice must be made. she was born physically female.

Look up Gender: the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex.

Notice it is not neccessarily the sex itself.

Today there are legal and medical standards, and regardless of how anyone "feels" about it, the fact remainds this is where we are. There is a recognized condition with recognized standards of treatment, which include gender reassignment, legally changing from one gender to another.

I think the bigger issue here is that gender isn't all that cut and dried. It is in 99.9% of all cases, but here we have that one oddball that doesn't fit. Gender is determined a lot of different ways. Remember that sprinter from South Africa who was in the news a while back? If I recall correctly, the track and field governing body determined his/her gender by the amount of testosterone and/or estrogen in her bloodstream. Which sexual organs that person possessed was immaterial.

In this case the "problem" is mental gender identity, and the solution for extreme cases seems to be sexual reassignment surgery. I happen to think that's pretty extreme, but I have to defer to the experts on this and assume that all parties involved have carried out the proper due diligence and attempted every other reasonable alternative.

sure, just like I called Michael Jackson male.

I didn't make up the definitions...I just try to live by them. got a problem? blame webster.

What does this disorder have to do with electing a girl as homecoming king?

lol @ Oscar, we are talking about gender, not sex..What's the saying Gender is between the ears, Sex is between the legs.

The "real world" has transgendered people in it. I know, my brother is one of them. My brother goes to his college classes as a woman. I have gone out with my brother as a woman, and although there was some staring, the real world accepts transgendered people.

No one is claiming to be a quack. Quacks apparently are ignoring biology nor are their expertise is physical issues. Seeing how they deal with mental issues not physical issues they should be trying to cure the mental disorder instead of facilitating it with drugs/hormones and greedy plastic surgeons.
