GOP 'Pledge' makes closing argument to voters

Forgive me if it's been already said in the thread (I'm pressed for time and can't read every post), but all I see here is history repeating itself. I seem to recall another "contract with American" with sleazeball Gingerich and the repubs. As far as I know it was a flop.

There needs to be a purge of senators and congressmen and women from BOTH parties. They still don't get it.

Economic principles are apparently over your head. The policies that lead to the recession were in place way before 2007.

'looked pretty darn good' ??? Are you ****ing serious. The entire country was living on credit!!! We were fighting two unfunded wars!

Funds were leveraged 30 to 1!!!???!!!:roll:

Things looked pretty good on the titanic, even after they hit the iceberg, most people thought it was just a delay...

What did "your" party do to stop those economic policies that you claim led to the problems we have today and what has "your" President done to make things better? Are the results better today than last year?

two years in? How long were you willing to give republcians, who clearly lied to you (remember that contract thingie?).

Show me one economic policy that has made things better since the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007? You do know where legislation begins, right?

By the way it has been four years since Democrats controlled Congress!

Having control of congress isn't having complete control. there was a republican president, so they share balem during those two years, if there is blame to be had. But again, you're arguing government is the answer, right?

I am proving you wrong and totally ignorant of basic civics and economics. What legislation did the Democrats submit that was stopped by Bush?

Having control of the Congress and the Presidency provides no excuse for not having a fiscal year 2011 budget, a budget that begins October 2010. Democrats have had control of Congress for four years. How long before they correct the problems some claim Bush created all by himself? So far we are 3 trillion more in debt in 2009 and 2010 and the numbers this year are worse than 2009. That apparently is liberal progress?

What part of shared blame don't you understand?

That is lame. Clinton left you with a balanced budget. Was it balanced when he left?

Uhhhhhhhh....... Clinton left us with a stained blue dress and a new definition of sex. The Republican Congress of that time left us with balanced budget..... nice try. :lamo

What part of shared blame don't you understand?

Who is sharing the blame with what has happened since January 21, 2009. Who are you going to share it with? How do you explain a recession ending in June 2009 and worse economic results today? How do you explain higher unemployment each month of 2010 vs. 2009? Who is to blame for those numbers?

How many bills did Democrats get 66 votes in the Senate on? Because every bill with 65 votes or less could have been vetoed. Any bill with 59 votes or less could have been filibustered. Putting 100% of the blame on Democrats for taking over in 2006 is silly. It's a shared responsibility because, honestly, Democratic and Republican spending has not been substantially different for decades. They both raise spending.

More on-topic, Senator Boehner literally straight up said when he introduced this pledge "We're not going to be different than we have been."

These people are clueless.

Although quite telling that Democrats and Obama supporters want to focus on everything prior to 2009 the fact remains Democrats can no longer blame Bush for making things worse in 2010 vs. 2009. What economic policy or prediction has Obama made that has improved the economy or been accurate?

remember, I'm the one arguing the government can't fix the econmy. you're the one arguing the government is the answer.

Govt. provides the incentive or lack of it for individuals to produce results. This Administration's results speak for themselves but the true Obama cult followers don't want to hold their choice to the same standards they held Bush. Bush continues to be blamed for the recession of 2008 even though the results today are worse this year vs. last.

People provide their own incentives. They don't need government ot do it for them. Government does nto control the economy, and that is just the way it is.

The GOP wants to go back to 2008 spending and tax levels, which you yourself have admitted were bad. Their "new pledge" is to do exactly what made the country vote them out in the first place.

But nice try on changing the subject.

Stimulus spending halted the jobs plummet.

You really don't even know how your mind works. Do you spend more money when you have less take home pay? Govt. sets tax policy and personal income growth or decline is a factor in economic performance.

Depends, if TARP money is included then that is wrong. If it isn't that would be a good place to start. I believe that most people don't realize however that TARP was part of the fiscal year 2009 results and not part of the 2008 budget so therefore that could work. it is at least a start.

Stimulus has led to higher unemployment each month in 2010, that would be THIS YEAR. How has it stopped the job plummeting?

Tax dollars aren't put into a giant pile and set on fire. When the government spends money, where do you think it goes?

Most of it goes to creating debt as well as inflation. Massive growth in the size of govt. is inflationary. Govt. produces nothing but increased demand on goods and services thus driving up prices.

Before the stimulus we were losing jobs far faster than we are now. Do you not understand the concept of rate of change?

And seriously, we were running a deficit in 2008 no matter how you try to cherry-pick.

Yes, for three months and that happens in a recession, fact is there are more lost jobs this year than last year when the recession ended. I am cherrypicking nothing, you are, however, ignoring actual data and the question is why?

GW Bush never had trillion dollar deficits and Obama has had two. Name for me any other President in U.S. history with trillion dollar deficits?

Stop buying what you are told and do some research.

But clueless is easy to fix when Conservatives are willing to fix it. The problem is that same willingness to fix is noticably absent from Progressive liberals. Unlike the joke Obama played on America with the Hope / Change nonsense, I think most Conservatives understand change does not happen with one document, or one election, or one person. Grass roots change is coming and with any luck, it will be a tidal wave that will continue to grow and oh yes, change will come. Just not the change YOU'D want, and that will make me very happy.
