are you sure these people know what they're doing?

Anyway I think its a good article and I agree with O'Donnell when she talks about "Republican cannibalism" except I think her and other Tea Partiers are to blame. This is exactly what I've been talking about in several recent posts about compromise. Castle was willing to compromise with Dems and follow his voters, but because of that he didn't get everything a typical Republican would want in a candidate. The response apparently from enough Republicans in Delaware was to replace him with someone who would promise to give them, the Republicans, everything they want... if elected. And thats the problem, the majority of Republican voters in that state have "We are unwilling to compromise" and its going to cost them the election in Delaware and result in a candidate whos even more far off from what that majority wanted. So in the end, they'll get even less of what they want to see from a Senator.

    Compromise is required!
Castle's out and good riddance. He's for cap and tax.
It's time for everybody to rally for O'Donnell. It would be nice if Castle would endorse he or at least congratulate her. What's he going to do, back Chris Coons. He's for climate legislation too.

What good is pragmatism when it doesn't make a difference, doesn't work for your goals?
It worked for Reagan, but I do understand where you are coming from. After all, there are no more Reagans in the Republican party.

We don't know that for a fact. There could be one in the wings right now. But it seems a convenient excuse to turn your back on them for sure.

Tell me, is it Castle's "Reagan-esque" support for abortion or his "Reagan-esque" support of government regulation and bail/buyouts or his "Reagan-esque" support for huge spending in part with entitlements that you think makes it a situation where the Republicans are wrong to not be compromising by going with him?

Its funny, you lament there's no more Reagans in the Republican Party while defending the inclusion of a person into the Republican Party that is far and away no where near Reagan.

Coons took 'bearded Marxist' turn (Dem Delaware Senate Candidate)

An article Democrat Chris Coons wrote for his college newspaper may not go over so well in corporation-friendly Delaware, where he already faces an uphill battle for Vice President Joe Biden’s old Senate seat.
The title? “Chris Coons: The Making of a Bearded Marxist.”
In the article, Coons, then 21 years old and about to graduate from Amherst College, chronicled his transformation from a sheltered, conservative-minded college student who had worked for former GOP Delaware Sen. William Roth and had campaigned for Ronald Reagan in 1980 into a cynical young adult who was distrustful of American power and willing to question the American notion of free enterprise.
Coons, the New Castle County executive who is running against GOP Rep. Michael Castle for the state’s open Senate seat, wrote of his political evolution in the May 23, 1985, edition of the Amherst Student.
The source of his conversion, Coons wrote, was a trip to Kenya he took during the spring semester of his junior year—a time away from America, he wrote, that served as a “catalyst” in altering a conservative political outlook that he was growing increasingly uncomfortable with.

It's one of Dan's favorite games. Corner him and he'll bring Reagan up and claim Reagan was the great moderate who inspired the left and the right to come together and got independents into it too. That's of course Poppycock, Reagan won by presenting the three things people want in a President.

    1. Character
    2. Leadership
    3. Clear Vision

Reagan didn't draw everyone to the middle, he pulled the middle to him. But don't tell Dan that. He's trying to bring back "Reagan" by supporting republicans like Mike Castle.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.
