(CNN) -- A Florida pastor Thursday called off his controversial plan to burn copies of the Quran on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack.

The Rev. Terry Jones of the Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center, standing with a Florida Muslim leader, also said the imam who planned a mosque and Islamic center near ground zero in New York has agreed to move it to another location. But the imam who appeared with him said that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf in New York agreed to speak with Jones about possibly moving the center.

A spokesman from Soho Properties told CNN producer Vivienne Foley that "the Muslim community center called Park51 in lower Manhattan is not being moved."

Jones, meanwhile, said he will travel to New York on Saturday to meet with Rauf.

The pastor appeared at an afternoon press conference with Imam Muhammad Musri of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, who said he will make the trip with Jones.

I think this guy had every right to do what he was gonna do.

He didn't have to call it off, and before you start saying well... now the Imam should call off the Islamic Cultural Centre in New York. He shouldn't.

Both have the choice to say what they will, or will not do.

:shock::shock:

Holy, Allah - olly oxen free!

First I thought Pastor Terry just caved in, but then I read on. I was so annoyed at how much air time Jones was getting. Why didn't they just ignore him? Total media blackout! Stop putting him on TV!

But, unless the Jerkie Boys are goofing on the Pastor, and that wasn't really the Imam on the phone... then this story is getting interesting.

If the Imam does show up, have a near-beer summit with Pastor Mustache and come to some sort of gentleman of God agreement... That would be pretty amazing. Especially, since the Imam would have to go back to his people and show them a picture of the guy who made them move the Cultural Center.

Are you saying that wouldn't be interesting? I respectfully but vehemently disagree! :lamo

Agreed. One thing at a time. Its good he cancelled the burning. I don't see any quid pro quo necessary.

It's nice that the good pastor changed his mind.

In this age of recycling and ecological awareness, he was at risk of wasting a perfectly good doorstop, draught (draft) excluder or scrap paper used for various waste disposal purposes.

Looks like the Amam of New York never agreed to move the mosque and never even talked to Jones. Apparently the Amam of Florida jumped to conclusions or this was a very, very, clever ploy to embarrass Jones. Additionally the Amam of Florida did not talk to the Amam of New York either. He only talked to the wife.

The moslem center has issued a statement they have no intention of moving the location of the purposed Mosque.

Doesn't look like there is going to be a meeting on Saturday and someone is gong to look even more stupid. :lamo

And now Mr. Showboat Donald Trump is in the picture!

You can't make this stuff up!

So what's Jone's going to do when he finds he looks like a horse's ass? "God told me the burning is back on." :lamo

Maybe the imam lied or led the pastor into thinking something different.

It's what's taught in Islam:

Qur'an (3:54) - “And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.”

The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means deceit. If Allah is deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same.

Islam Permits Lying to Deceive Unbelievers and Bring World Domination! (MuslimFact)

Phew! Now I can sleep at night knowing that a few copies of the Koran will live to see another day.

Not going to lie when I first read this I thought you said Korean. I was utterly confused.

I doubt any lies were told to him to call this off. It would be pointless. The guy could just reschedule his bonfire. It is OBVIOUS in the extreme that Terry Jones is a media hog who has enjoyed all his extra time in the spotlight, and all the chance he got to get a few more book sales. I agree 100 percent on cutting this guy off from all media. Ignore him. He is not worthy of our time.

In a climate where all concerns are ignored over a mosque built on a warzone, some people would be likely to protest in a more extreme way to have themselves noticed.

And the bullheaded arrogance and stubborness of the Muslims involved, caring not one jot for anything but their beloved extremist-funded eyesore, does them no credit.

Indeed, on a much smaller scale, people in my town are not best pleased at the knowledge that the butcher shop had to close because its proximity to the new mosque offended its new occupants.

Wherever they go there's trouble, with much victim-playing when the stuff hits the fan.

Nope! Calling off the mosque job is exactly what Imam Rufus should do. It has to be a two way street, or it will. never. work.

Yeesh, this is quickly approaching corny TV drama territory. I'm almost half expecting the pastor and the imam to realize their forbidden love for each other.

I would wholeheartedly agree with you if this were a case if our government had been involved, or a much larger organization than this 2 bit backwoods preacher. If one was to go by your way of thinking, then any fool could threaten to blow up a building, and should automatically get whatever they want for NOT doing it.

That's exactly why the Liberals are trying so hard to appease the Muslims; so they don't radicalize and blow us up.

That's not my way of thinking.

But the preacher WASN'T blowing up a building, just burning some scrap paper.

The decision to build this mosque was always going to be inflammatory.

yet you feel the Imman should give the preacher what he wants because the preacher decided not to burn the holy books? Can you please explain the difference? You said he now has to do for the other guy. You are condoning blackmail?

Oh yes it was going to be inflammatory. I personally feel with all the outcry, he would be better off moving elsewhere, although I think the outcry is a bit overblown. But it would be a wonderful gesture if he put it somewhere else. I do not however, think that his decision to move or not to move should have anything at all to do with the idiot in Florida.

Most NYers go to Florida for a week or two during the winter anyway, so maybe he agreed to move it there.

It's called, "give and take". i.e. compromise? Hello?

What kind of compromise is that? It isn't a fair compromise for the the mosque to be moved simply because some guy isn't going to burn a book.

Do you honestly think that this backwater preacher with a congregation of 30 or so is in a position to demand or compromise anything with the imman? Be serious. As I said, I hope the decision is made to relocate the mosque, if for no other reason than to ease the tensions. But I certainly hope any decision that is made is not even remotely colored by the good reverend.

I honestly got so sick and tired of hearing and reading about mosque this and mosque that. I don't care about the damn building anymore. In fact I hope it goes up. Because then I will go down with a bunch of pork sandwiches and gay men and just sit there and eat, drink and be merry.
