Florida pastor calls off burning of Qurans

Florida pastor calls off burning of Qurans - CNN.com

I think this guy had every right to do what he was gonna do.

He didn't have to call it off, and before you start saying well... now the Imam should call off the Islamic Cultural Centre in New York. He shouldn't.

Both have the choice to say what they will, or will not do.
"Hey Bubba, how's about we protest Islam by purchasing Korans and giving the Koran publishers our money, y'all!"

Pure genius. ;)

Yeesh, this is quickly approaching corny TV drama territory. I'm almost half expecting the pastor and the imam to realize their forbidden love for each other.
I smell a reality show in the making.

Maybe the imam lied or led the pastor into thinking something different.

It's what's taught in Islam:

Qur'an (3:54) - “And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.”

The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means deceit. If Allah is deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same.

Islam Permits Lying to Deceive Unbelievers and Bring World Domination! (MuslimFact)

Just when you thought our country had moved beyond the fear and ignorance of the 1950's-1960's... This guy shows up with a rolodex of 'MuslimFact' - because the best way to learn about Islam is from a non-muslim full of fear and hate and looking to misconstrue every aspect of the their faith, smearing and twisting their beliefs into a the monster he wants it to be...

Sir, yours are the paranoid ramblings dragging this country backwards and into the gutter of bigotry.

Indeed no, yours are the ramblings of someone who has no knowledge on how Islam was founded and why, hence no understanding of how every few hundred years there have been such strong jihadist tendencies.

Have you even read the Koran? Do you know why it's laid out how it is or what function it's there to serve?

What's the manifesto of Islam? What are the two main stages of Muhammad's political life regarding his religion? What made Medina and Mecca so important?

Come on then, Mr. Answers-with-insults, let's have the education from you. And if you can't answer then be quiet.

The ability to Google 'online Qur'an' and pull off a few out-of-context passages does not make you a Koranic scholar, as your constant inflammatory posts attest. I could pull out wild and violent passages from almost every religious text available, but I won't do that because I understand that words without context, analysis and debate are just that, words.

I'll not waste words to say again in depth that Islam was made for war whilst Christianity was made for peace. You didn't get Christ saying "I was made victorious through terror" as Muhammad did.

And don't just moan about my being able to use a search engine. If I'm so in the wrong, I dare you to deconstruct my bits with your own. That is, if you know what you're talking about beyond your pocket cliches.

And being able to answer the questions I set would show an understanding of the mechanics of Islam, which probaly explains why my opponents can't answer them. They come out with the readymade 'religion of peace' statements without actually knowing much about the creed they defend.

______________________________

For example, if even MUSLIMS from ISLAM'S ORIGINAL STOMPING GROUNDS take their own religion 'out of context', to use the left's own logic, then it's about time the Reds turned on them too.....

No, I'm neither an academic theologian, nor a Koranic scholar. And, just a guess, neither are you. So why should we exchange ill-informed cod interpretations of a work neither of us has studied properly? Always happy to debate subjects I have studied, like international politics, economics, medieval history and the great achievements of Manchester City Football Club. That last course didn't take me too long.

I've never called Islam 'Religion of Peace', that seems like an oxymoron to me.

Well, there's a point of contact. Although I've tried to learn what I can about Islam and Muhammad's life and explained many questions because of it, I can't say I'm a learned scholar. Mind, I never claimed I was and was just making the point that where possible I try to know my onions. I can't find it on here, it must have been moved, but I do remember debating the finer points of the Koran and Sunnah with a Muslim lady who once came here. I said a lot and I learned a lot.

I do recall that the 'Religion of Peace' statement wasn't brought into popular consciousness by Muslims at all, rather a bunch of liberals claiming to diffuse tensions. But to do that you have to tackle the arguments and questions I've often posed and get to the truth, whoever that suits. Slogans and insults aren't the way.

Religions, as with extremist political ideologies like Nazism or Communism, often have violence perpetuated to further them. I tried to find out which ones started with violence and which had violence adopted on their behalf.

I just want to see the Pastor on Dancing With The Stars and become the partner for Bristol Palin.

Insults and slogans are BAD. RoP says so.

Your semantic exercises will come as a great comfort to all the victims of religious persecution carried out by faiths that started out with messages of peace and love.

I'm called all sorts of names of these boards, as well as everyone else who dares deviate from the PC mantras across the West. So all there is to do is tell it like it is regarding people who don't give two hoots for certain opposing views anyway, especially in the case of the EU.

If they weren't violent to start with then you can restore to that default. And it's funny how valid explanations of suppositions turn into 'semantic exercises' in the invalidation process.

A bit like here when the point was proved in the message above: http://www.debatepolitics.com/europ...lamic-full-veil-public-18.html#post1058867527

What kind of compromise is that? It isn't a fair compromise for the the mosque to be moved simply because some guy isn't going to burn a book.

Then, people shouldn't be offended by the burning of a Koran. I think I'll burn one tomorrow, just for the hell of it.

I've just noticed that thread: http://www.debatepolitics.com/break...fear-and-intolerance-over-islamic-center.html

It's always someone else's fault isn't it. If someone wants to set fire to your trousers it's only right you may complain. People were bound to be provoked by this blatant act of Islamic supremacism.

Muslims have turned victim-playing into a fine art. Mind, they do have an entire West-ful of liberals to encourage them and the Koran to order them. That's why you could make any kind of case that the pastor gets too much attention for his firelighter threat.

Jesus, it's like talking to children. It's you, pal, who cherry-picks extremists incidents to re-write the history of a faith.

Have you even read the Koran? Do you know why it's laid out how it is or what function it's there to serve?

Have you ever read the bible? Both NT/OT have plenty of justification for extremists acts, holy wars and crusades... if you read them with a hate-filled heart.

The NT orders followers of Christ to go out and covert people or they'll be damned to hell. And people reading those passages out of context do exactly that with differing degrees of intensity.

How is that any different that what you're referring to with regard to Islam?

What's the manifesto of Islam? What are the two main stages of Muhammad's political life regarding his religion? What made Medina and Mecca so important?

That's how some outside the mainstream read it -- just like that's how some Christians read the NT. And I'd say the number of overzealous Evangelicals in the U.S. far outnumbers that of Muslims with the mindset you describe.

Again, like all the fear-mongering idiots coming out of the woodwork lately, you are attributing extremists beliefs and practices to an entire religion.

Even the Catholics had periods where they were going around trying to convert everyone -- those missions in CA?? -- they outgrew it. Mainstream American Muslims have already outgrown the beliefs/practices you describe. So chill out, and stop talking about a faith you don't really understand.

Come on then, Mr. Answers-with-insults, let's have the education from you. And if you can't answer then be quiet.

You insult and embarrass yourself with your bigotry and ignorant statements.

So you haven't read the Koran then, nor do you have any idea of why it was written and its context. Thanks for confirming that by your evasion.

As I've said, the Koran was written with murder in mind, the direct, unchangeable words of Allah, whilst the Bible's Old Testament contains re-interpretable accounts written by other people attributed to God's messengers. MASSIVE difference, hence the abuse and eventual New Testament, Reformation and other improvements and reforms.

Again, like all the fear-mongering idiots coming out of the woodwork lately, you are attributing extremists beliefs and practices to an entire religion.......

No, I asked a question. A question is not a statement. You refused to answer or were unable to, relying on the usual liberal blend of insults and overblown emotional reaction. That's TWO ignorance points in a row for you there.

So chill out, and stop talking about a faith you don't really understand.

OK - tell me something about it and we'll have a debate. Otherwise, as I say, keep quiet if you don't have the knowledge to refute mine and just accuse me of your own ignorance.

You insult and embarrass yourself with your bigotry and ignorant statements.

Another blind accusation without proof.

Jesus, it's like talking to children.

Quite!

Here's what's being missed in this whole Quran burining discussion: Violence and threats of violence works. The last time this much controversy was created when flags, Christian bibles, etc... were burned? Never. Such a thing is a "who cares" moment. Why? Because Christians don't start bombing other country's who burn bibles or effigies of Jesus. The direct opposite is with Islam. The media and the White House are scared ****less that a whacko Pastor in Florida is going exercise his protected right to burn whatever he wants to burn for whatever reason he wants to burn it, because - they claim, it will endanger our troops. News flash: Our troops are already endangered.

The double standard hypocrisy on this Pastor has highlighted this White House and Progressives: They want the Ground Zero mosque and anyone against it are bigots and hate mongers and it's the Imam's constitutional right to put a mosque there. BUT - when the same constitutional right is exercised they don't like --- such as burning Qurans --- then it must be stopped. Some calling for this pastor to be arrested.

See how much power Islam and terrorists have over this White House? So much in fact, that the Sec. of State, Sec. of Defense and the POTUS have weighed in. How weak and feeble of a nation we have become.

Way to cherry pick your arguments.

I don't know of many progressives that are calling for this guy to be shut down. In fact, just the opposite. Most progressives I know are saying "Why are we giving this nutjob any airtime....let him burn his Koran...the better approach is to show the world that we don't share the same views as this idiot".

Post of the year in my book.....Simply brilliant

Just to add...that, the Muslim world does not respect weakness. It never has and it never will. They will turn anything we do, good or bad, into a propaganda piece for them. With that in mind, I see no reason to go out of our way to make "nice" with them

Though that han't stopped lefty and liberal wackjobs from hypocritically burning the US flag, claiming that's a legitimate form of protest.

On this board, out in the world, the attitude is everything goes.... until someone wants to burn a Koran instead. Then the muck flies.

The only ones claiming that liberals want to shut down this nutjob are the right-wing nut-jobs that are lying to their listeners to convince them that this is the case.
THAT's the problem with right-wing radio and FauxNews.....they say something and their followers automatically believe what they said is true....when it is completely false.

BOOOO!!!! What a ****ing *****! Backing down like that. Sure it was a stupid plan, but he was more than free to do it. I hope this wasn't some PC **** pressure that got him to back down. It's fine if he rethought the position and came to the conclusion by himself; but if it was forced by others I say boooo on them!
