Why Do Heavy Drinkers Outlive Nondrinkers?

I'll meet you and your buddies by the finish line. I'll be the guy with a pack of camel non-filter, a fifth of Jameson, and three dirty, dirty strippers at my side. :2razz:

And you got there in your SUV?

Drinking and smoking isn't required to enjoy myself, but I do enjoy drinking and smoking. I enjoy a lot of things, like the taste of a good rib eye. But I don't require rib eye to enjoy myself.

I drink wine in the evenings because I enjoy the taste of it immensely. I smoked because I enjoyed smoking.

Nothing wrong with that, but it seems SOME people need those things to enjoy themselves... I have never been able to understand that...

Why Do Heavy Drinkers Outlive Nondrinkers? Because god hates prudes.

Umm... I don't get it.

Define "Prude"

Just because I don't drink doesn't mean I think all drinkers are evil lowlives.

Define "Heavy Drinker".

Does a bottle of whiskey every day to every other day count as Heavy? lol

Ive never met a Heavy Drinker who lived past 65.

Why do you have to drink and smoke to enjoy yourself? I enjoy myself plenty well without either of them...

Cause they are fun and relaxing. Sure I can enjoy myself without em but what would be the point of giving up things I enjoy doing? You only live once and life is too short to worry about all this crap. Do what you enjoy and live.

Oh Lord.... the "You only live once" thing....

Someone told my sister that and got her to believe it....

Now she is a worthless crackhead that nobody trusts....

But hey, You only live once right??!?!

Moral of this story: 1 beer can lead to crack addiction.

Gotta know your limits.. Sorry about your sister..

Hope you are not compairing drinking and smoking cigs to being a crackhead.

I think that his point was more about "you only live once" not being a good justification for anything, be it beer or crack.

I know someone who use to drink a half of Jack Daniels and a 12 pack a day that lived to be 100. He was also a chainsmoker.

But unless you are into reincarnation? You do only live once so why not spend it doing what you enjoy?

One thing about excessive use of anything is that at some point, it stops being enjoyable and starts becoming a demon that possesses you.

Heavy drinkers tend to go early. They rarely see 65.

My father has been a heavy drinker since he was in his twenties. He is now 70 and in good health. He also smoked ciggeretes from age 12 till 48. He still smokes an occaisonal cigar with his whisky or beer.

George Burns was a heavy drinker and cigar smoker and lived to be 100.

I find running and cycling very relaxing as well, and quite frankly, I wouldn't be nearly as good at either of them were I a smoker who put cancer sticks in my mouth every day and shared my poison with others...

There are always exceptions, but the statistics are against the smokers and heavy drinkers.

My dad was a smoker and died of lung cancer at age 40. He was a pretty heavy drinker as well...

I was not talking about excessive use of anything.. I was talking about things in moderation.

BTW, I support an adult being able to do whatever they want to in reguards to legal vices and so should you.

That is wonderful and good for you!

Can you please try not to demonize me for my love of smoking and drinking? If you do that? I will promise not to think you are an oddball for stressing your body to the points where it could be physically dangerous.

1. I have no problem with moderate consumption of alcohol.
2. I will not demonize smokers who respect the rights of non-smokers by not smoking in their presence AND do not smoke in their homes/cars if there are children there being force-fed the poison as I regard that as child abuse...

As for stress on the body from running, remember, we EVOLVED to be endurance runners... it is only through civilization that we have devolved into couch potatoes...

I smoke, drink, and I kick ass. This study kicks ass too. Also smoking is poison true, but no more poisonous to a child then giving them kool-aid, pop, candy, breathing in the air, watching TV, playing a videogame, etc

I am 100% smoking bans of any kind. I wish we could still smoke in grocery stores. That would kick ass.

Second-hand smoke is more poisonous than any of those things... and it is inconsiderate people like you that requires us to have stricter laws against people like YOU!

Are you being sarcastic? If not: Um, yeah, smoking is waaaaay more harmful than any of those things. Especially to a CHILD, who still has a developing body.

I don't know how kick-ass it would be, but it would probably lead to the kicking of the asses of the smokers by the non-smokers tired of having to breathe that awful-smelling crap.

Seriously, I really have nothing against smoking or people who smoke. It doesn't produce any reaction from me in itself. It's when their secondhand smoke crosses my air-breathing path that annoys me... which unfortunately happens all to often.

WRONG.

Living by the mantra "Hey maaaan you only live once so do whatever you want." Can lead to a crack addiction.

Like Crack????????

You know what is inconsiderate? Cars. Go choke on that. I don't got any laws where I am I smoke all I want wherever the hell I can.

Yeah keep telling yourself that when a kid -might- die in his 50s from second hand smoke but his fat ass has diabetes now because his mom wouldn't quit giving him candy, or McDonald's, or anything else. You don't want the smoke in your face? Get the **** out of the way it's not like I am looking for people to smoke in front of and laugh. We got a ****load of fat kids, pollutants comign out of smoke stacks and cars 24/7 and you are worried about somebody smoking a cigarette? gtfo
