Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Attack'

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

Airlines do have passenger manifest they can use to screen against terrorist watchlists. Problem is these lists are held by U.S. Customs agents, not at airline baggage checks.

Actually, federal laws now require passengers to provide their full name, DOB, and other information when they book the flight. Airlines have plenty of time to check these against terror watch lists.

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

These were obviously deranged individuals angry at GW Bush and chose an ugly, spiteful way to express themselves.

The only deranged individuals as of late are "Tea Partiers" - and they love Bush, so your comment is EPIC FAIL.

What I was trying to get at is names alone don't cut it. Faces, destination, unauthorized or suspect carry-on items, suspecious behavior all go into catching the bad guys where air travel is concerned. But yes, monitoring passenger manifests more closely I'd think would be the first place to start.

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

We get it. You guys would like to use racial profiling to more thoroughly scrutinize potential Muslim terrorist.

The sad fact of the matter, a fact you obviously are oblivious to, is all this good police work keeps pointing to one group....That same group that wants to cry "we are victims of discrimination". They are not victims they are the perpetrators.

You obviously fail at sarcasm dear, sarcasm. I was picking on the MSM and people that excused the Ft. Hood Terrorist with every excuse they could come up with NOT to call the guy a terrorist.

Now, since you're new here, like this month, I'll let you learn from this mistake and improve yourself.

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

Haha, I have a relative who is named Jihad and he is not even religious.
Sucks to be him. Imagine trying to board a plane

I'm sure his traveling companions don't say his name too loud at airports.

Lol.
If they were intelligent, those Muslims would buy the nitrate from the farmer. Then what?
Then the clever farmer picks up the phone... or did so even before to have the dastardly, devious dolts rounded up.

That's how it works. Buying a mass of fertilizer is not as obscure a manner of waging terror as say only practicing takeoffs in an environment that had never witnessed such mental illness before.

As for some Muslims looking like westerners, my bet is our border control is fairly well trained in "profiling", and connecting dots of potential hotspots that could provide camouflage for the idiot delivery system (the demented terrorista).

Not every asshole will be caught unfortunately, but profiling will help catch many. It's when political correctness enters the equation that people get killed, and that after ample warning bells have been set off... as what happened at Ft. Hood. They knew the guy was a brick short of a full load, yet they closed their eyes because of PC.

Well yeah, alot of them tend to take chemistry or engineering in Uni or at least the ones in UK do

The people who look most obviously Muslim. Hijab, beard, a tagiyah are those least likely to be a terrorist as the aim is to not draw attention to one self.
Profiling are we?
Who is to say the terrorista's won't use this precise cover because some think they are harmless folk. Sorry, but Muslims have been responsible for these dastardly attacks around the world and none should be sloughed off as harmless. If they want to expunge the profiling, then these people should turn on the idiots and aggressively and constantly denounce them... but that hasn't happened.

Instead, cartoons, cartoonists and film makers are protested and killed.
Let's say they have their priorities a little farked up.

Your own findings should teach you not to jump to conclusions. Don't be so suspicious of your fellow men!
ROTFLOL... especially don't be suspicious of those with a record of terror attacks that kill and mutilate.

A small tidbit to pass along...

In my line of work, a high-ranking Jew diplomat once told me...."They only need to be lucky once. Your people need to be lucky every ****ing time."

This whole series of incidents sounds very ominous.

Update: "Unlikely that 2 men plotting terror"

The FBI probe of two men arrested in Amsterdam after suspicious items turned up in one of the men's luggage is finding they were probably not on a test run for a future terror attack, a U.S. official said Tuesday, casting doubt on earlier suggestions even as Dutch authorities held the pair on suspicion of conspiring to commit a terrorist act.

The U.S. does not expect to charge the men, a law enforcement official said. The two men arrested in Amsterdam — both traveling to Yemen — did not know each other and were not traveling together, a U.S. government official said.

That's all well and good, but this gave me pause:

TSA screeners took a closer look at his checked baggage. It was then that they discovered suspicious items in his bag, a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle, multiple cell phones and watches taped together, and a knife and box cutter, according to another U.S. official who had been briefed on the investigation.

None of the checked items violated U.S. security rules, so TSA allowed al Soofi to fly.

Kip Hawley, the former Transportation Security administrator, said it is not unusual to find items like watches and cell phones bound together on flights to countries like Yemen. He said this would always catch the screener's eye.

How the **** is that not suspicious? Who tapes cellphones to pepto bottles?

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

What do you think their parents choice for their name would mean?

That they're Muslims, perhaps?

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

It was a dry run. They were testing the system; looking for weak points.

It sounds like the FBI is saying that's not the case.

Right, sometimes, the FBI lies, to calm the public, or for political reasons.

There is absolutely no reason to tape a cell phone to a bottle of liquid and to place that in your luggage, unless you hate your cell phone.

Which is more likely? This guy hated his cell phone... or it was a test run of what will set off security?

They've probably received orders from higher up to say that. Like NASA, the FBI's primary goal is Muslim outreach.

Oh I know, it's really darn scary. Have you heard about all the death threats coming into MSNBC and Moveon.org?....Oh never mind....the death threats I'm thinking of are coming into Freedom Works against Dick Army, Hannity and Rush. Those darn Tea Partiers, going after their own like that.

I don't know about you, but my BS detector is going off here.

Of course there is no reason in the world for this administration to lie about a terror attempt originating from or on US soil..... except maybe that this would be the what, the 4th or 5th since 9/11, and all on Barry's watch?

Naaaa.... everyone tapes cell phones together or to Pepto-Bismol bottles, And everyone knows that knives and box cutters won't raise any flags.

Anyone want to buy a bridge? How about ocean front property in Arizona?

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

This whole thing is quite suspect. Despite the FBI saying no dry-run has taken place. They have offered no good reason for why the phone was tapped to a liquid bottle and why these men abruptly changed planes to leave the country without attempting to retrieve their baggage.

I personally hope this was an inside test created by the FBI.

I think I mused earlier about how much coverage this would get.
Is it just me or is the MSM pretty much ignoring what I consider to be a big story?
There are some little tid bits I catch here and there but no real discussion. I first learned of it when CNN scrolled it on the bottom of the screen. Then I saw it posted here.
I admit, I haven't googled it yet, but I have TV or radio on almost all the time.

Obama was on the phone 10 seconds after this story broke to give strict instructions, not to connect these Muslims with terrorism.

Got any sources for this Crunchy?

Were you sitting next to him at the time or is this a grossly exaggerated assumption fueled by partisanship?

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

From what little I heard on the radio news driving to work, it sounds like one of several possibilities:

Some persons or government testing the airline security for purposes of preventing terrorist attacks.

Terrorists doing the same, but for purposes of carrying out terrorist attacks.

No sane person would tape cell phones together, watches together, tape cell phones to bottles, bring box cutters and knives along, and try to get those items onto a plane - unless one of the two possibilities I mentioned were the case (or something I didn't think of).

I remember once getting asked to open my carry-on, as I had a roll of quarters in it.

Ever hear of hyperbole? Having a bit of a stretch to make a bigger point?

Re: Two Men on United Flight from Chicago Arrested on 'Preparation of a Terrorist Att

Not saying that being Muslim is a terrorist act, but the simple fact is, being Muslim is a red flag when it is coupled with unusual acts that have terrorist potential.

Yea, I am sure that the Oklahoma City bombing could have been prevented had we profiled Muslims in that city. Sheesh!! Religions don't commit terrorism. Assholes do.
