Court allows agents to secretly put GPS trackers on cars

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

Are all of you involved in organized criminal activity?
Are you all felons?

Why in the **** are you guys so ****ing concerned with the government monitoring you? What makes think the government would WANT to monitor you?

Can anyone give me one legitimate reason why the government would want to monitor them?

There is no legitimate reason to monitor me. That is why I get suspicious when the police ask for the power to monitor me without needing a legitimate reason. If you actually have a good reason to GPS track someone, why shouldn't you get a warrant? If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't fear accountability.

Who says you are being monitored? Why are you making this about you?
Which police department asked for the power to monitor you?

Odds are that most people here aren't part of organized crime (of course, I could be wrong), so the fear is that the logic for using gps, while initially used to fight organized crime, could be perverted to fight "personal" (or victimless) crimes as well (see war on drugs).

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

Wow talk about paranoia.

Dismissive much?

Are all of you involved in organized criminal activity?

Irrelevant, privacy and rights extends to everybody, criminals and law abiding alike.

Because there are laws that protect privacy, that's why.

What makes think the government would WANT to monitor you?

How would WE know the exact WHY? They are doing it quite often, better ask THEM why they want to support snooping on the law abiding without cause.

That is all I need to know.

What are you losing exactly?

If this makes it the supreme court, it will be about me as well as every other American citizen. Without legal protections, there is nothing stopping the police from monitoring me. Also, you didn't answer my question. Why should anyone but dirty cops fear getting a warrant? They shouldn't be worried unless they have something to hide, right?

Its the 9th Circus. Its gonna make it to the surpreme court and its going to get overturned.

I would believe one would be required to get a warrant, in fact we already do that here (yes we've used GPS tracking on specific suspects). We also get warrants for it.

That's why you do what you do. Not trying to be snarky but, there it is. If you exercised too much leeway you wouldn't be relied upon to carry out your duties. But the other side of the equation is that many people feel there are crimes that it's a little rediculous to persue with equal vigor, and that the ability to crack down on all levels of crime equally and effectively represents a frightening level of power on the government's part.

Don't get me wrong... Im not a prohibitionist when it comes to drug laws..... with that said...... Saying "Well, its okay to do it for THIS but not for THIS" doesn't constitute something as a RIGHT.
A RIGHT should be universal..... thus if its okay for government to do "THIS" to help investigate "THIS" then it should be okay for government to do "THIS" to ALSO investigate "THAT"...

Im sorry if you got confused....

So you disagree with the judges ruling? Then why the "if you have nothing to hide" speech?

I disagree with the judges ruling..

I also disagree with the paranoid outrage over the judges ruling.

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

Have you ever seen a bicycle charged with speeding? I haven't...

I've clocked a group of bicyclists traveling down the road at 20mph on radar....

.... in a 45mph zone..

Are you saying they were going 20 in a 45 or that they were going 20 over in a 45 i.e. 65 mph? That would be horrifically fast.

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

This is just wrong on so many levels. I hope this gets overturned!

Nah, just 20mph.

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

Nah, just 20mph.

Ahh...there are bicyclists around here who can reach what I would consider to be insane speeds on a bike. Can easily get going 30 or more on a road bike. More if going downhill.

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

Nah, just 20mph.
Wouldn't you just love to get one going a little over though? More for comedic value than anything.

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

This is what big brother looks like when people dont keep their government in check.

Nevertheless, the Tea Party Movement doesn't know what the hell it's talking about.

Yeah. I don't think I'd write them a ticket, I just think it would be kinda funny.

Unless of course, the guy didn't find it funny himself and decided to be a jerk. Then I'd have to actually write him a ticket...

If that's the case, you'd get carpal tunnel syndrome out here from having to write so many tickets. The bicyclists out here are incredibly snooty and jerky (well ok, not all of them; but the ones which are...whew, are they ever!)

20 mph is not particularly fast... 65 mph could only be sustained down a steep and straight hill

Re: The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves

Nah, just 20mph.

Do you have a point with this? That is not particularly fast. I average more than that over the course of a 100km race and can eaily reach 28-30mph on rolling hills in a race. I nearly average 20mph over the course of a 180km race course after swimming...

Not particularly impressed with that speed.

Going under the speed limit can be just as dangerous as going over.
I don't hate bicyclists but I wish they would get the hell out of the way.
