What, exactly, is your graph supposed to be showing? That there was ONE quarter of gains in the labor market over the past two years with declines yet again in the current quarter? LOL

    YAWN.

Current Employment Statistics - CES (National)

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 144,000 in August to 131.5
million, seasonally adjusted. Over the year, payroll employment has risen by
1.7 million, with slightly more than half the gain (885,000) occurring from
March through May of this year. Since May, nonfarm employment has risen by
313,000, as revised. In August, there were job gains in health care and so-
cial assistance, financial activities, and professional and technical services.

The haggardness of poverty is everywhere seen contrasted with the sleekness of wealth, the exhorted labor of some compensating for the idleness of others, wretched hovels by the side of stately colonnades, the rags of indigence blended with the ensigns of opulence; in a word, the most useless profusion in the midst of the most urgent wants.Jean-Baptiste Say

I cannot remember anything of the sort. When asked about republican spending, his response usually begins with, "but the democrats........"

yeah, yeah, yeah....Conservatives back Republican ideas, and Liberals back demo ideas...Congratulations you have been promoted to 'Master of the Obvious"....

Now I have some questions, because I am not an econ grad, or am I anything close to understanding some of the arguments coming from supporters of Obama these days....

    1) If Obama's administration, and indeed Obama himself is out there touting how say, August saw a 144,000 jobs increase in non farming sectors, but reports come out at the same time saying things like the 293,000 jobs lost this summer, or monthly unemployment rates show some 500,000 people collecting unemployment at a steady rate and that number not falling....

    a) How can you trumpet that as a success?

    b) How much did every one of those 144,000 Jobs cost in real dollars per job spent by the tax payer?

    c) What is the earning of these people supposedly employed through Obama's wonderful spending spree? Are they earning as much as before they lost their job?

    2) We have heard in this thread, as well as numerous other places at different times during the economic debate in this country how things would have been worse had Obama not borrowed more money from the Chinese along with printing his own money at record rates, and buying our own debit through Treasuries which I have heard will, not might, not could, but will lead to hyper inflation when Obama's economists slight of hand tricks run out.

    a) How do you accurately measure a "SAVED" job?

    b) How can liberals continue to point at the Bush Administration as the totally wrong way to go about all things economic, when Obama's plans have put things in overdrive?

    c) How does spending something like a million dollars to create one $30K per year job that only lasts 8 months count as real job creation?

We'll start here. I am truly looking for some explanations. I confess that I am probably ignorant when it comes to economics on a macro scale, but I do a budget for my own house, and am wondering just how this smoke and mirror show that Obama is putting out is supposed to do anything but destroy our country.

    Thanks.

We can and have shown that education jobs were saved. And once that stimulus money was gone, so were the jobs.

nyt, aug 17: the recently passed emergency aid for teachers is NOT being used to hire teachers in school districts across the country, from california to new jersey

    http://www.nytimes.com/glogin?URI=ht...Q5D3t@Q7BA3x05

instead, usd's are taking these millions and applying them towards shoring up local budgets badly broken, ie, they're being used to underwrite a few more months of local obligations to TEACHER PENSIONS such as, here in CA, strs, of which i am one prodigiously overpromised member

don't forget that the "payfor" for this plugging of PUBLIC PENSIONS came at the cost of CUTS TO FOOD STAMPS, already seriously overstrained in, y'know, times like these

Ezra Klein - Senate cutting food stamps to pay for Medicaid and teacher funding

wapo's ezra klein, by the way, is the founder of the notoriously revealing and immediately defuncted JOURNO LIST

food stamps are the difference for quite a few of your neighbors, they're how a lot of americans are able barely to get thru this month

    U.S. Food-Stamp Recipients Reach Record 35.1 Million (Update1) - Bloomberg

retired teachers, in cheerful contrast, are doing even better than uaw's who've wound up their careers

So you're arging that if new stimulus isn't being used, the previous stimulus wasn't? Are you serious?

Pensions are another issue, and one we've been down before. Do you think we shouldn't have a pension plan for teachers?
