McCain wins senate primary in Arizona

Oh boy, a strong possibility of another term for Senator "I don't know how to use a computer but I'll sponsor bills drastically altering the nature of the internet anyway" McCain!

I think this nickname might be a bit long.

Hey, you're American, think of an acronym!

Huh uh. Sure. How about we're tired of Republican's that don't stand for Republican values? Notice, McCain went, for him, HARD RIGHT in this election cycle. That belies your notion of centrist/bi-partisan being what voters want.

Yea, and he's going to be back in Washington up to his old tricks.
Oh well, I didn't like Hayworth that much either.
I do think McCain is a good guy, but a lousy conservative.

You know, I may have some serious qualms with him, in the way he ran his campaign in 2008... but I have a lot of respect for the man.

I still feel his prior record is really quite good, he has actually proven himself to be a bi-partisan, good politician in the past.

I think as a man, he is a good man, and as I said I may not agree with his 2008 campaign.

I think in the end, he should come out from his base GOP shell again and be more moderate, and he could do some real good, as he has done in the past.

I rather agree. I'm no fan of American Conservatives or the Republican Party, but as far as Republicans go, John McCain, Mitch Daniels and the like aren't all that bad.

Infinitely preferable to Tea Party Congressman Paul Broun and his ilk, anyway.

I was hoping McRino would lose, but I guess the people in his district want a Rino or they just fell for his tricks.

I am glad to see there are still Republicans in the Republican party. I was beginning to think the entire party had gone off the deep end.

And people like you are showing what is wrong with both parties today. It is either ideological purity or out. That is what is wrong with U.S. politics today. Reagan would not like this kind of talk. Remember the Big Tent? That is long gone because of people like you.

Great point, well said.

When John McCain took the microphone out that old woman's hand and told her 'No ma'am, Obama is not an Arab', he made me want to vote for him for President--true class and respect for the process. The only thing that stopped me was his running mate.

I'm sure he'll hold his seat and continue to make AZ proud.

HAHAHA, you mean you were afraid the party would go Right and present a real choice to Dem's instead of being "Bi-Partisan" Dem's Light.

Okay, so like I said, he is moderate on some issues.
I don't agree with him all the time, but on pretty much every issue you didn't list, he holds the same views as the rest of the party. That is, with some important exceptions, like his opposition to earmarks and Medicare Part D - which really should make him more favorable in fiscal conservatives' eyes than the rest of the party, balancing out his moderation elsewhere.

And he was never pro-amnesty, he was pro-guest worker program. It is disingenuous to act as if they are the same thing (though too many conservatives do so). And frankly, I would have favored that immigration bill he co-wrote.

Of course it was amnesty. It said it would allow 11 million illegals the chance to apply for citizenship before ever returning home leapfrogging all other aliens who were playing by the rules. That is the definition of amnesty.

That last line doesn't even make sense. More damage "to republicans" than any other Senator? What does that even mean? I thought "RINO" meant "Republican In Name Only", not "person who does damage to other Republicans". McCain isn't nearly as much as a RINO as actual RINOs like Charlie Crist or Arnold Schwartznager, not to mention other Senators like the two from Maine.

Sorry, the gang of 12 was the single biggest roadblock to voting on bills and judges than anything else he did. I would have expelled him from the party for this. He purposly blocked judges and bills to satisfy his own bruised ego to loosing to Bush. That with the amnesty bill and his claims of us torture did enourmous damage to the party, far more than anyone else you named did.

Anyways, he clearly didn't do enough damage to Republicans to stop them from nominating him for President last election. Thus proving that not all Republicans are of the label-purity, black-and-white-thinking type. Frankly, out of the choices given at the time, I myself had decided that McCain was probably the best candidate for the GOP.

And how did that work out?

voter turnout in the grand canyon state was just a tad over 2 to 1 red

in the sunshine state, florida, it was 1.5 to 1

michigan's primary a month or so ago: 2 to 1

missouri, the show me's who are almost never wrong, who passed measure C, damning obamacare's individual mandate with overwhelming 71%, red turnout was 1.6 to 1

kinda key commonwealths, no?

worry

You are oversimplyfying it... it is NOT the definition of amnesty. Amnesty is just automatically forgive everyone and grant them legal status. The bill did not propose that. I also support a guest worker program, BTW. It works for Taiwan. Why can't the U.S. manage it?

Are you referring to waterboarding? I think he is far more of an authority on that than you or I. He has given his life in public service, including more than five years as a POW while serving in Viet Nam. I would have expected you to show him a little more respect.

I don't think any Republican could have won in the political environment that was 2008.

Taiwan is an island. Does Taiwan have a huge number of people entering illegally, having children that are then "Taiwanese Citizens" and then bringing their whole families over to care for said child being cared for by the state? You talk of oversimplification and then you...

WTF is this drivvel? Why is it, those of us that find McCain lacking, his political drive is about John McCain and little else, are called out for lack of respect? No one here that I know of has disparaged the mans sacrifice to the country. However that doesn't grant him immunity from judgment on his actions later in life.

That might be entirely true. However, a strong Conservative with the ability to inspire voters to vote FOR him vice voting against Obama might have had a chance. We'll never know, but we can DO BETTER in 2012 then a John McCain type Republican.

Your use of the words "claims of torture" indicate that you think he is lying about his time in the POW camp.

Don't you think you could use appropiate words when reffering to his experiences?

I don't see MrViccio's ever using "claims of torture" indicating anything... I think you quoted incorrectly?

Second, I think McCain's one of the biggest RINO's out there next to Snowe and Collins, but one thing I don't doubt was that he was tortured and while I don't agree with all his views on enhanced interrogation, I certainly respect his experiences. I might point out that torture did eventually work on him as well. I'm not making a moral judgement just stating a fact.

Yoa re right it was Textmaster but MrViccio answered the quote from the other poster.

I don't think anybody should doubt the fact that McCain was tortured. It was evident every time he tried to raise his arms to wave at anybody.

McCain is in my opinion, also a socialist, but he's just not as far down the scale.

I never said any such thing, appologize sir for your error.

Unfortunately, Taiwan DOES have an illegal immigration problem (not as big as that in the US) and the illegals are often hard to root out because they are of the same race and speak the same language as most people who live in Taiwan. It is true that Taiwan does not have birthright citizenship. However, I am on the record as to favoring an amendment to the Constitition on that point.

However, I respect his opinion on what constitutes torture. If he says waterboarding is torture, I am more included to take him at his word on that than someone like either of us or most (if not all) on this board who have never been subjected to such treatment.

You mean with the likes of Palin? Please... if she is the best the GOP can do, we may as well accept that Obama will have an eight-year presidency... unfortunately...
