Nationwide meat recall announced

That's way too often. I've only had botulism twice in my life and I'll eat pretty much everything as long as it doesn't smell bad.
Are some people just more susceptible I wonder. I have a friend who gets food poisoning quite often. I'm not any more careful about what I eat than she is. Either she is a hypochondriac or somethings odd.

Have you and your honey ever done a CSA? We're doing one this fall, I'm tres excited. :)

Local Harvest / Farmers Markets / Family Farms / CSA / Organic Food

We've done one from Black Dirt Farms in Warwick for a couple years now.

As far as oysters go, the fat, succulently briny/juicy flavor of an Appalachicola oyster is sheer heaven. Having them shucked, fresh, right in front of you by young hotties for $.25 per oyster rocks, too.

that my dear is one of the finest oysters and old world harvesting of wilds left in the world.

And it is the primary exception to the no-appellation rule. :prof

I've been all through that region when I was stationed at Hurlburt.

Indeed, that's why I make my own now.

No can do. It's given to me frozen.

Not an issue.

I don't understand people who say organic farming is not going to sustain the world yet turn around and say they buy local meat. The meat industries also have a big demand to fill, so isn't supporting local meat contributing to the very problem that you claim organic farming causes? I mean, if you compare huge meat factories to small time cattle ranchers, there is no comparison in terms of productivity. Just playing devil's advocate here. I actually support local.

Also, in response to people to say there are upcoming food shortages worldwide and that we need industrial farming to sustain us, I would say oh well. It was the green revolution that made the world's population swell to the numbers it's already at. More food equals more breeding. It would be awful in the short term to see so many people die, but it's only delaying the inevitable by looking for ways to mass produce food even more. The world's population will get bigger and then will crash anyway. Industrial farming is breeding antibiotic resistant disease and ecological catastrophe. We can't covert our entire nations to food production and even if we could it would just do us in.

Part of sustainability unfortunately means sustainable populations. It is simply a law of nature that some of us are going to have to die out before a natural equilibrium is established again.

I don't know what this guy is on about. Seems to be making arguments many are not making.....

I buy local, and fresh because the ingredients are better, whether it is fois gras from d'artagnan, sword and tuna from off of LBI, chicken from Goffle farms, or beef from the Jersey skylands. When the ingredients are better, the food is better. It's healthier, better tasting, etc. I could care less if others drink hormone laced milk or bleached soaked holocaust chicken. I know what's best for me and mine. It;s about choice. While I have no issue with produce and non processed foods from far distant lands and often use them, my profile usually is local, fresh, and unprocessed.

And the Term Organic=sucker. It was invented by the factory farmers so you can feel better about oneself. Take Whole foods for example. Anything from outside of the US can be stamped "organic" because the FDA does not regulate this.

Guess what. Most of that Organic **** is from out of the country and is not "organic"...
