Protesters rally against, for planned Islamic center in New York

Your fingers say no, but your thoughts say yes yes yes.....
NavyPride, is that you?
Get over my self? Hell look in a mirror dude....:lamo
"I know you are, but what am I?" Oooh, I am cut to the quick by your sharp wit!

Then what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be donning your black hoodie?
 What the hell does that mean?

Well then I suppose I should not see your wonderful posting anymore on the subject then if you think it is so stupid....Any other reason to come back and continue since you have fully articulated yourself is to do no more than insult and flame.
I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.

You obviously do, you responded....I own you.
:lamo Yeah, keep thinking that.

It must be hard work to remain so miserable.
Schadenfreude is actually good for you. I have it in spades!

From what I understand there have been over 700 new mosques built [or opened for worship] in the US since 9/11. So I doubt this is primarily an issue of religious freedom

More about assimilation than religion. I see in the news and here at DP people talking about HATE being the cause of intolerance and the reason behind opposition to this mosque... which is untrue for 99.911% of us. America has taken an enormous hit from people who claim their primary motivation for killing us is justified by their muslim faith. Now we have have people of the same faith who want to build a place of worship near where their fellow muslims attacked us.

Yes they can build and [at this point] looks like they will do just that. However, there are radical christians just as violent as terrorist muslims... and I'm afraid this will bring them out of their camps and into NYC.

All it takes is one idiot like Tim Mcvey to bring the war back to our soil... and we have at least tens of thousands of them. The emotions against this location are too strong to expect inaction. Violent people don't need much arousal or provocation to take action. Unfortunately thats the reality we live in today.

Another thing to consider is a growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque and if their unions support their position no telling what could happen. NYC construction unions will not allow scabs to build on their turf.... and they have a lot of muscle behind them. Another source of potential violence.

Louis Coletti, president of the Building Trades Employers' Association, said unions have not yet taken a "formal position" on Park51, but he understands why members would be hesitant to work there. "It's a very difficult dilemma for the contractors and the organized labor force because we are experiencing such high levels of unemployment," he said. "Yet at the same time, this is a very sacred sight to the union guys."

If the promoters of this project have any sensitivity at all... they will make a concerted effort to gain the trust of all who are against this... especially the families directly hurt from this tragedy. I'd personally like to see this Iman Rauf have some type of "townhall meeting" with family survivors of those killed and release a statement outlining specific reasons why they want to build at this location and provide full disclosure of funding.

Didn't the governer offer money to move the mosque and they refused?

while highly unconstitutional it points out that this mosque does more to damage relations than "build bridges"

I'm not sure the goal is to build bridges. It may be just to be jerks. But there ain't no law against that either; so I see no point in endlessly bitchin' about it.

They claimed it is to build bridges.

And I haven't started a thread on this IIRC. I just post in em.

How does building a Community Center over a Burlington Coat Factory effect the dignity of 9/11 victims?

Does Bruce Springstein know that these wing-nuts have hijacked his song "Born in the USA"?

I guess the Constitution is an inconvenient document...

Pretty pathetic, if you ask me, that a multi-cultured country can be so racist and xenophobic.

Check out this genius:

Where, on the basketball court or the Child Care room?? What an idiot. Thanks Glenn and Sean for dumbing down our country and wiping your ass with the Bill of Rights. 'Freedom of Religion (except Islam)'. Idiots!

Opposition to a brutal legal system that regards women as property is now "racist"?

Speaking of idiocy.......

It's August....When you silence all the talk, what else is there?

Should everyone always appease all illogical and unreasonable sensibilities?

Of couse not. But if the goal is to build bridges and it is going the wrong direction why proceed?
If I'm trying to plug a hole in a boat and what I am doing is making the hole bigger, I'm going to stop what I'm doing.

I would disagree. Before you can build a bridge, you have to make a distinction. if Muslims are not them, they should not be treated like them. hence, it has to be understod there is no reason, logical reason for anyone to be offended. Therefore, making a stand can be argued as important.

I know what they claimed it's for. I was saying I don't know if that's really the goal. It could be that they're just trying to be jerks.

Nor did I say you have. But we've multiple threads now that are some horrible amounts of pages because people do continue to endlessly bitch about the mosque. My statement remains valid, I do not see the point in endlessly bitching about the problem because there's no legitimate road we have and bitching just plays right into their hands by making it a huge deal when it's best ignored.

"This picture shows the cruelty of Sharia Law in action! The penalty for this 8 year old child in Iran for stealing a loaf of bread..Getting his left arm crushed by a TRUCK!"

Savages

This mosque from what I understand is led by folks who are for Sharia law. Won't condemn Hammas, and has indicated that 911 was in part our fault.

They have the same right to open thier center of intolerance and hate, the same way a white power group has a right to do so.

This mosque is not about building bridges, Only a fool would think so.

That said, I support thier right to build it. As I have a right to call them assholes for it.

rev.....please! that video has been debunked, it's just not a true representation. i can't believe you fall for that bull****. and people thank you!

Link please. I would like to be seeing the debunking. thanks. (I'm open to it.)

btw, are you denying such things happen?

Still, sharia law can be just as brutal. And as a freedom loving American, I can state it has no place in public law.

I feel EXACTLY the same way.

But that has nothing to do with this subject. Wanting Sharia Law and Enacting Sharia law are two different things, Sharia law had nothing to do with 9/11.

If someone ever tried to enact Sharia law in any western country, i'd be the first to all them out on their bull****.

Really? Nothing to do with sharia law?

Are you familiar with Bin Laden's "letter to America"?

As I said, wanting to enact Sharia law... and enacting Sharia law are two different things.

I'll send a letter to America saying I want everyone to wear silly hats on Wednesdays after a terrorist attack, will it matter?

Exactly. Actions matter and not any individuals wanting. And what OBL wanted has nothing to do with the proposed Center being built.

If you then kill 3000 Americans, My guess is that it will matter.

I really hate how the word xenophobic gets thrown around. People who fear or mistrust Muslims are not necessarily xenophobic. In fact, most are probably not. I'll bet many of these people are not for instance irrationally afraid of say Japanese people. I know it is a big word and sounds really good in a sentence but you really cannot use it to criticize this group unless you are going to interview them all and find out they hate mostly all foreigners it just isn't true.
