Protesters rally against, for planned Islamic center in New York

I wasn't the one who went off on this tangent.

I didn't go off on a tangent, I just feel that saying, oh look Muslims in Muslims countries support Sharia law we must stop this mosque because of it is not really an argument.

I mean surely that means you should stop ALL mosques?

Did I say this mosque should be stopped? Perhaps you can show me in which post I made such an utterance.

The good reverend has caught Jet skimming posts.

But after all you did post that picture.

I guess my tangent though was meant for others who do follow that train of argument.

 it happens.

My position is this. Here in merica, you have a right to be an asshole. I have a right to call you one. I think this imam, is indeed an asshole. An asshole who has a right to build said mosque.

It's the United States of America, where people have the right to assemble and protest and exress themselves.

We have the right to peaceably protests. When protests become violent, or somehow begin to infringe on people's rights, like the black man in the video, I would think otherwise. That was dangerously close to a hate-crime.

I really hate how the word xenophobic gets thrown around. People who fear or mistrust Muslims are not necessarily xenophobic. In fact, most are probably not. I'll bet many of these people are not for instance irrationally afraid of say Japanese people. I know it is a big word and sounds really good in a sentence but you really cannot use it to criticize this group unless you are going to interview them all and find out they hate mostly all foreigners it just isn't true.

How about "ethnocentric"?

I haven't heard your take on this. How can a man who says he wants to build this Mosque to build bridges, be trusted?

It doesn't really matter if he can be "trusted" or not. One does not have to be honest to apply for a building permit. His personal opinions really don't have any bearing on this, and in fact are a simple attempt at diverting the issue at hand, which is the push for discriminatory policies against Muslims.

Notice how they call it the Anti-Muslim Rally at Ground Zero.

Rather divisive in my opinion.

Rather honest, if you ask me. I mean it's blatantly clear: they verbally attacked a black man for looking like a Muslim. How much more obvious could you get?

The "Good Reverend" said:
"This picture shows the cruelty of Sharia Law in action! The penalty for this 8 year old child in Iran for stealing a loaf of bread..Getting his left arm crushed by a TRUCK!"

Sorry Rev, this has long been known to be fake for years. It was a father and son street performer. Hell, even looking at the photos it's painfully (lolpun) obvious that this is fake. Sort of like most of the various justifications for anti-Muslim bigotry that are thrown around here.

Not surprising in the least that j-mac thanked you, though. Laila appears to have believed it too.

However, I feel the blame needs to go to the Imam who refuses to take into consideration the feeling of those who don't want it there.

He doesn't have to take anyone's feelings into consideration if he doesn't want to. If he wanted he could construct a giant middle finger pointed straight at Ground Zero because property laws aren't based on personal religious/political beliefs, no matter how much you bigots want them to be.

This was in fact one of the main arguments against the direct action implemented by the civil rights activists in the 60's. They were pleaded with by "reasonable" people to "consider the feelings" of the bigots who wanted to keep them in oppression.

Agreed, but c'mon bro are we really supposed to take your argument based on the sanctity of property rights seriously?

Completely disingenuous.

no matter how much you bigots want them to be.

Wait so let me get this straight, pointing to the words and actions of a very specific Muslim and saying that this isn't right is an act of bigotry now?

Fair enough -- good point.

Words are important.

I can't watch video.
Leave it to a leftist to try and tell people what to listen to. I've never heard anyone on Fox tell their viewers to stop watching MSNBC or Comedy Central.
Who are the true Americans here?

Are you kidding?

They do it every single hour of every single day.

The code word = mainstream media -- it means those lefties who don't report the truth.

"fair and balanced" the most ironic tag line the history of media.

Do they say Stop watching MSM?
The left is often times saying Stop watching Fox.
Even our own President said that.

I don't know who the "left" is. A mythical monster like Lockness or Big Foot I suppose. However, you need to watch the clip so you actually know what was said in context. otherwise, you're just being silly. ;)

They falsely portray every other media outlet as left-leaning and therefore less reliable.

If you want to play word games, go back to grammar school -- this board is for adults.

Stop watching FOX. There, I said it. Or at least mix it up and get some different points of view.

When I see people actually willing to fork over our Constitutional rights of free exercise of religion.....it makes me ashamed of what my country has become.
Its sad to see people who actually believe it is ok to discriminate against a religious group based on their hysteria and ignorance.

True....people often gather to show their intolerance, ignorance and hatred. Our Freedoms are what make America great and sadly some people either don't understand them (our freedoms) or respect them.

The idiots in that video waving American flags show that they have no respect for the principles for which it stands.

Lame.

We are not discriminatting against a religious group we are looking at the actions and words of one particular Imam and saying that this **** isn't right.

True dat. Freedom to hate. But not the freedom to hurt.

The black guy in the video was a carpenter working on the new WTC who happened to be wearing a skull cap when he got off work. Look at the disgusting slob with man-boobs go after him. Just because he looked Muslim.

Face, there are two sides to this debates. Reasoned response and hypocritical idiots.

No, you're listening to Fox News and not doing any critical thinking or independent research.

The radical Imam thing has been debunked. He's a moderate leader of mainstream American Muslims.

How does building a Community Center over a Burlington Coat Factory effect the dignity of 9/11 victims?

Does Bruce Springstein know that these wing-nuts have hijacked his song "Born in the USA"?

I guess the Constitution is an inconvenient document...

Pretty pathetic, if you ask me, that a multi-cultured country can be so racist and xenophobic.

Check out this genius:

Where, on the basketball court or the Child Care room?? What an idiot. Thanks Glenn and Sean for dumbing down our country and wiping your ass with the Bill of Rights. 'Freedom of Religion (except Islam)'. Idiots!

While I have plenty of not-so-nice words to spare for America and its laughable "tolerance", I'm more interested in asking whether any of those people realise that "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen is actually a very vehemently anti-American song.

It boggles my mind that right-wing lunatics think it is somehow an endorsement of America in the 70's.

Lame.

What is LAME is the complete disregard that these supposed "Americans" have for our freedoms and rights.
This isn't about insensitivity. Its about the right-wing seeking to preach their hatred and intolerance...and it is completely reprehensible.

Hatred and intolerance are the seeds that will destroy the soul of America.

You're only saying that because this cat is a Muslim. And, today it's politically correct to stand up for Muslims.

You are right on with this Ferris. When Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's book titled "What is right with Islam is whats right with America" was published in 2007 in the muslim world the tittle of his book was called "A call to prayer, from the World Trade Center rubble, Islamic dawah from the heart of America post 9-11"

The more I learn about this guy the more I do not trust him.

Watch this video where Robert Spencer explains exactly what dawah is. Its covered at 2:40 to 4:10 btw the woman in the interview is the wife of a pilot who was one of the 9-11 victims.

You say this is about the right wing preaching hatred? If that where true than why are so many on the left against this mosque. And what about muslims who are comming out against this Imam and his planned victory mosque? Explain that disney, you can't can you?
