UK warns Libya any celebration of Lockerbie bomber's freedom would be offensive and t

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) Britain's government says it has warned Libya that any celebration of Friday's anniversary of the release from jail of the Lockerbie bomber would be deeply offensive to the families of the mainly U.S. victims of the attack.

Abdel Baset Al-Megrahi, the only person convicted in connection with the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 above Lockerbie, Scotland, was ordered in 2001 to serve 27 years in jail, but freed on Aug. 20 of last year on compassionate grounds, as he is suffering from prostate cancer.

In a statement urging Libya to show restraint, Britain's Foreign Office in Friday described the bombing, which killed 259 people onboard mostly Americans and 11 on the ground, as the "worst act of terrorism in British history."

You can't make this **** up folks, you can't. I hope Libya has a tickertape parade and a night of "Celebration" in this guys honor. Just to MOCK the Brits for this... PATHETIC "warning". I'm laughing my ass of at the UK, and praying for them.

It's funny till you realize just how far the Brits have fallen.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

So what exactly were we suppose to do?

    Threaten to bomb them?

Try ignoring them? Telling them it will hurt your feelings if they celebrate...

What I' most amazed by is how someone can only get 27 years for killing 259 people and WHY would they ever be released on compassionate grounds?

Seriously. That makes no sense to me.

I'm just going to hold off on taking a number until the number goes above 259.

It does if the conspiracy theoriests are right and it was part of a deal with BP to solidify a contact for the oil waters around Lybia.

They let him go because he got cancer and the doctor told him he had six months to live after refusing chemo. So they felt sowwy for him. After release and a good laugh, he went in for chemo and has lived every since. The Brits were duped.

For the record, the Scots were dupped. The British government was against this...

He is most likely innocent any ways. The Brits, Scots and American's did not want the case appealed because it would expose how weak a case it in reality was. And lets not forget that this is only newsworthy because a few US congressmen has it in for BP.
