It really warms my heart when we all see an issue which various political ideologies, leans, and groups can all come around and agree upon even if its just one small thing, and then we all just use it as another reason to attack each other.

At the time I was strongly against this release. Even the argument that he was innocent didn't swing it. This can only be determined by a court, not a deal behind closed doors. And I supported the whole of the Scottish political establishment, apart from the grandstanding nationalists who took this decision, in condemning Kenny McCaskill for his extraordinary decision which was all about expressing Scottishness than justice (look how everybody outside the UK noticed that!).

But I also support the concept of compassionate release and believe that vengeance is for God, if He exists, not the State. Maybe in this particular case it was not appropriate. But that is a decision for Scotland. And to see it ridiculed as a concept by Americans foaming at the mouth for vengeance starts to change my perspective.

This whole cloud has an enormous silver lining. It has seriously pissed off thousands of grunting inarticulate right wing morons in the USA. And the sight of populist American politicians summoning British politiicans to a review of the decision in Washington, as if Britain was some sort of American colony, and being quietly told to go and play with themselves, has been rather amusing.

Jump up and down all you like. There is nothing whatsoever you can do about it!

Britain owes nothing to America. The USA is about as fairweather a friend as you can get. The UK was the only significant country to support them in Iraq and they treat Britain then like a dog on a leash. Well in that context I'm glad that this decrepit old geezer is still alive. He's not going to kill anyone now. But he can annoy Americans with every day that he lives.

I'm glad Americans are blowing sound and fury and that it signifies nothing, and nothing is exactly all they can do about it. Britain is an independent country. We, unlike the USA, have a relatively civilized legal system. Where does your vengeance based criminal psyche get you eh? Massive prison population. Massive murder rate. And a legal system where the rich get off and the poor go down for ever. The USA.

Hey America. Get the plank out of your own eyes before looking for the speck in your neighbour's eyes. Carry out your inquiries on your own problems. Britain is a free sovereign country, with the rule of law, that was followed here. Keep your sodding noses out.

There is a way to gain the whole world. It is to gain the people, and having gained them, one gains the whole world. There is a way to gain the people. Gain their hearts and minds and then you gain them. Mencius

Not at all. But if your going to question somebodies intelligence, you might as well make an attempt.

It wasn't jet that subjected himself to ad hominem by questioning a user's measurable intelligence. Hence, one can make room for error.

You are aware of the wall to wall glass house you are residing in do you not?

How about getting back to the subject?
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
