Nearly 1 in 5 Americans Thinks Obama Is Muslim, Survey Shows

The president's religion is irrelevant to his job performance but important to his electability.

Agreed.

However, many others don't beleive him and think he's some kinda secret or closet muslim.

They're paranoid. I garuntee the vast majority who think he's muslim, also hold a negative opinion of Islam.

It doesn't help that he carries a foreign, even Muslim-sounding name,

He can't help that.

His father was muslim,

He can't help that.

and attended a muslim school during childhood in Indonesia.

False. Fact Check:

This article, citing anonymous sources, claimed that "Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia." But this allegation was quickly shown to be false. Days after the article appeared, CNN sent reporter John Vause to Jakarta, Indonesia, to visit the school. He reported:

CNN: I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan. … I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that.

Obama has essentially brought this debate on himself because of his inconsistancy between his christian faith and some of his actions.

What actions?

On one hand he says he supports the ground zero mosque.

Bring up the transcript of his speech and show me EXACTLY where he "supports" it. He supported their rights.

Some also feel he spends more time appeasing muslims then showing support for christians which could feed into the confusion.

If you mean he's not starting any new wars with muslim countries... it's a start...

According to one poll 60 percent of those who are convinced Obama is Muslim say they learned that from the media.

Well then who's fault is it people think that? It is after all a lie...

These people are misinformed based on what they see on the news... not uninformed.

Ah, they are uninformed because they haven't bothered to look at the evidence to the contrary.

He's been shown worshipping with Muslims with his shoes off he's bowed to Muslim leaders including the king of Saudi Arabia... and since becoming president, no longer attends a Christian church. He makes the excuse he doesn't want to interfere with services for other christians on sunday. However, he's seen quite frequently playing sunday golf and apparently has no problem disrupting others on the course. He spent Christmas in Hawai and didn't attend any service celebrating the birth of Christ. Those things don't go unnoticed by the leader of the free world. No wonder only 34% of americans take him at his word....

Mmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmmm

You know, I'm actually kind of glad we don't have a religious nutjob of any stripe in the white house that feels he has to spend every waking hour in church because god has to tell him what to do.

It really wouldn't matter how much time he spent in church, he could set up a webcam live on the internet to show that he prays to Jesus everyday and you'd still accuse him of faking it and being muslim.

LET IT GO! He's not muslim, and the people that want to paint him muslim, do it mostly because they wanna attach the negative connations to it.

Finally! I found the ABC video interview that then Sen. Obama did w/George Stephanopoulos where Obama made the slip-up speaking of his "Muslim" faith the Stephanopoulos corrected him. If you listen to the entire video and NOT just the snippets we're seen on YouTube or that the talking heads play over and over and over again, you hear then Sen. Obama state at the very beginning he IS a Christian and the portion where he has a slip-up (as opposed to a slip of the tongue), he and Stephanopoulos were discussing why Obama believed there was so much confusion even then concerning his choosen religion.

You can see the entire interview here.

Obama's problem is that he claims to be a Christian, but not with any conviction. He doesn't go to church, he doesn't walk the walk or talk the talk of a Christian. His policies fly in the face of Christianity for the most part.

That's not to say he has to govern from the pulpit, but there is nothing....absolutely nothing....that hints to him being anything but an gnostic or atheist.

That, combined with his name, gives some a reason to suspect this "closet muslim" idea, but they clearly doubt seriously what he claims to be, which is the genesis of this problem for him.

People don't trust him. That's plain to see. They simply do not trust him, and a lot of Obama voters wish they had a do-over right now. (That's why Hillary has to be thinking about running.)

How can you possibly measure conviction? It may be that a bias prevents or taints someone's view of what they see, and thus leads to a false preception. Liars, good liars, seem real convicted to many.

So you have proof they are all fundamentalist Christians right?

You better hope to hell that the people who believe this garbage are religious extremists, because if they're not, a fifth of your population that ISN'T under the sway of extremist Christianity readily believes anything told to them by Glenn Beck.

You're not even from here, so what the hell do you even know about it?

So you have no proof. Got it.

Very nice ignorant genetic rip on Glen Beck too. You really are going full out for the stereotypical Europen liberal aren't you

damn, what a good comeback, 'cause everyone knows foreigners can't read

Did you not even read where he was responding without proof of his argument that all of them are Christian fundamentalists?

As Spud-Meister eloquently stated, you're a bigoted, nationalist arsehole.

I know, I know, Americans have the best education in the world, and the average American is twice as smart as the average Brit, but, if you'll permit this measly, degenerate little foreigner to possibly bring up a point, marsster, if you please...

Either the idiots who believe this baseless (and more importantly, useless) conspiracy are right-wing Christian neocon extremists who can't stand the thought of a half-black Democrat as President, and so make up lies about the President's religion (as if his religion could somehow affect his political acumen), OR, the people who are claiming this are average, idiotic indoctrinated Americans, and you've still got all those neocon Christian extremists believing even worse stuff (like Obama not being an American citizen and lying about his birth certificate).

And so, I claim that it'd be MORE beneficial for those literal tools of an anti-Obama hate machine to be religious extremists, because that would mean that they're already a part of a radical minority that no one listens to, and thus are no danger to American society at large.

Your post speaks volumes about who you are. I need not say more in response.

Actually, you need say more in response, because you haven't made any sort of argument whatsoever. If you have something to say, say it -- nobody ever thinks saying "no comment" or "I can see you're not worth talking to" is ever a valid argument, it just means you're backing out of an argument you can't handle.

So, if you have evidence to refute what I said, post it. If not, leave and admit defeat in doing so.

I'm afraid you cannot rely on apdst to provide any response to any reasonable point whatsoever.

Don't count on it.

Ah, he's just essentially a troll, then? Or does he actually believe the stuff he posts?

Maybe a troll who believes what he posts?

He's a "right-fighter".
