Islamic Center Backers Won't Rule Out Taking Funds from Saudi Arabia, Iran

Ah, thanks. So different than perhaps a terrorist organizatio, but still designated as some other sort of class. In that case I'm unsure, as I am not sure of what laws may be in place with regards to investment of Iranian money into U.S. businesses or non-profits.

No way, you need to worry. Because if they take that money and build that mosque, that means you're going to be executed here in the US for being gay! Don't you see....Sharia law...it comes with mosques....totally. Especially when funded by countries which impose the strictest interpretation of Sharia Law. If that money is taken and the mosque is built than we'll have Sharia law here and you're a dead man! FEAR THE MOSQUE!!!! FEAR IT!

This is quality sarcasm!

For clarity's sake . . .

Are people actually saying that if they took funds from the governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia, it's just so much paranoia to have concerns about it?

I'm saying it's absurd to flip out about what the man said, on the grounds that if I were in his shoes I'd say it too.

Just to piss everyone off.

Aside from that, he isn't dumb. Having made this announcement I'm sure he'll make sure he doesn't take a single penny from an illegal source.

In my case, no I am not saying that. Since there is so much confusion, let me clear at least my beliefs on this issue.

The Mosque has ever legal right to be built.

Christian groups can protest the mosque for any reason whatsoever, even if it is simply that Muslim's are icky(note: that is not the real reason they are protesting it, that is an extreme example, and more to come)

Jewish groups re free to protest the mosque for any reason whatsoever, even if it's just because they hate Muslims.

Atheist groups are free to protest the mosque for any reason whatsoever, even if it is because they think no religious buildings should be built ever.

Gay groups are free too protest the mosque for any reason whatsoever, even if it is because the mosque colors will clash with the streetlight colors.

The guy who wants to build the mosque is under no obligation to listen to any of the people protesting the mosque.

To me personally, I think there is no reason to my mind that the mosque should not be built, but that opinion is not any more valuable than any one elses.

I think they're flipping out over the implication of a slippery slope by the OP that somehow taking money from Iran or Saudi Arabia = Will actively push to have homosexuals beheaded in the US

Sure, there are some of those. But there are also those who dismiss the idea that there could be anything to be concerned about.

I'm just shocked that you started off by totally mischaracterizing my post Tex. /sarcasm

There was no mischaractierization Dan. You were quite clear with your "ignorant fools" comment.

I'm just shocked that you continued to totally mischaracterize my post Tex. /sarcasm

Again your own words bury you.

tacitly accused me of being a terrorist despite my efforts to help the government fight terrorism

If you meant someone other than yourself, don't use "me"

I wasn't accusing anyone on this forum of anything.

I was putting myself in the shoes of the fellow we're all supposed to be hating on.

So you believe America was an accessory to 9.11? Because thats what he believes.

America was responsible for 9-11, dont you understand?

Why are all of you making bad comments about Islam?

I have submitted to Islam and will be converting this week.

I will visit our local Mosque in Dallas and become a convert to *Peace be Upon Him* A'alah, the Great One.

I urge those of you who are Islamophobic to visit your local Mosque (women, unfortunately, have to go to a different room, as they are not allowed in the main prayer room).

I urge you to purchase a copy of the Qu'ran and educate yourself about Islam.

* Peace be upon Him * Aa'alah.

Islam is love. Love is Islam.

Actually, my own words don't do any such thing. I made it abundantly, painfully clear that I was putting myself in that fellow's shoes, not accusing anyone here on this forum of anything.

If you want to continue making a complete ass out of yourself, feel free to argue otherwise.

So you believe America was an accessory to 9.11? Because thats what he believes.

Where did I say I believed that?

Its always amusing when you come back and try to redefine your argument after the fact.

Again, your words betray you

I was putting myself in the shoes of the fellow we're all supposed to be hating on.

He believes in Sharia Law in America and said America was an accessory to 9.11.

I'll ask you again. Do you believe this since you are claiming you are putting yourself in his shoes. Thats what he believes.

How do those shoes feel Dan? :2wave:

I'm pretty sure "Iran" is not considered a "terrorist organization" so the questions and comments suggesting the government could act on such money as if it was is likely irrelevant. If it was coming from Hamas or the Republican Guard, both of which I believe ARE recognized as terrorist organizations by the U.S., then that'd be a different ball of wax. But to my understanding the U.S. considers neither of them terrorist organizations.

Who funds the Revolutionary Gaurd? The Iranian Government.

All I'm saying is that if I were in his position, I'd say this kind of thing to get folks like you all pissed off.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with anything he believes, just that I can understand why he's not bending over backwards to reassure the people who seem to be convinced that an evil radical Muslim ninja warrior clan is hidden behind every tree, under every bush, and inside every Mosque, waiting to cut our throats.

Would it be legal for the Ground Zero mosque developers to take money from Iran?

As a result of the current sanctions, as imposed by the UN and the EU, yes, it would be illegal.

That is actual a good question. I know it is illegal to give money to an organization that is considered a terrorist organization, but I have no idea if the reverse is true.

I would think it would be a clear violation of the U.S. sanctions on Iran, Iran can not legally fund anything in the U.S. if my understanding of the sanction regime is correct.
