Parents Lose Custody of Hitler

I'm kind of new to debate. Is this what they refer to as a "slippery slope fallacy"?

Well, clearly she's not going to admit that her opinion is a "fallacy" of any kind.

You know how I know when to stop mowing the yard? I come to the line. But if I do go over it, I damn well know where my yard is. I don't wind up slippery sloping my way across the neighborhood.

The problem with your idea is that the government has somehow abused or warped virtually every bit of power it has given itself for the last 100+ years, and we keep letting it.

Rubbish. What you are talking about is the great fear to open doors because we don't know where it may lead. This too...is weakness. Do we not protect the unborn for fear of the slipperly slope? And where oh where will the slipperly slope of stem cell research get us? Better shelve that crap too because we don't know where it may lead. The slippery slope argument is for other civilizations, not ours, yet we use it out of fear because we don't know ourselves.

This idea that we are too weak to draw lines in accordance to our own ideas of good morality just doesn't work. We are the nation that sparked prohibition and then rejected it. We are the nation that decided to drop two atomic bombs and then spent the next 65 years refusing to drop another one. We are the nation that looked at the KKK and said enough of your freedom of speech. We are the nation that makes it hard for Nazi parties to become little more than a haven for rejects. We constantly opens doors and re-draw lines to suit the needs of the society and good morality.

To sprint from the idea that we should allow a parent to raise their children to hate and agress on others only harms the society. Why not raise them to be serial killers and call it political ideology? Why not name them Bundy or Manson or Ripper and indoctrinate them to their namesakes? "Oh well....that's our freedom?" I'm sure you heard about the court decision to reverse the baby name "vagina" and "penis" and forced the parents to use their imagination less sexually when they try again? We draw lines all the time. Slippery Slopes are a matter of weakness.

If our government had a more reliable moral compass and ethical rudder I might agree to a point.

I don't trust the government to decide whose ideology or beliefs are sufficiently heinous to take their children away, absent actual abuse or serious neglect.

Appeals court finds evidence of abuse, neglect of US children given Nazi-inspired names - 8/5/2010 2:44:13 PM | Newser

Why the kids were removed, per the Appeals Court:

Heath Campbell told The Associated Press last year that he believed the children were taken because officials felt they were in "imminent danger." He accused the state of removing the children because of their names and said government officials were relying on unproven accusations made by a neighbor and by an ex-wife who charged him with abusing her years ago.

The children's names and the birthday cake were not mentioned in Thursday's ruling. The court found that there were myriad other reasons that proved the need for continued protection services for the children.

According to court records, both parents are unemployed and both suffer from unspecified physical and psychological disabilities.

The court found that both parents were themselves victims of childhood abuse and said neither "have received adequate treatment for their serious psychological conditions."

Heath Campbell, 37, cannot read and Deborah Campbell dropped out of high school before finishing the 10th grade, according to court records.

In its ruling, the panel found the parents "recklessly created a risk of serious injury to their children by failing to protect the children from harm and failing to acknowledge and treat their disabilities."

The judges considered a typo-riddled note signed by Deborah Campbell and given to a neighbor. In it, Campbell says that if she were found dead, her husband was to blame.

"Hes thrend to have me killed or kill me himself hes alread tried it a few times. Im afread that he might hurt my children if they are keeped in his care. He teaches my son how to kill someone at the age of 3," the letter read in part.

The reason their mental health conditions aren't mentioned in the media report is because this is protected information. People's mental health records are usually not released publicly.

Yeah, my bad. In my belief that nobody would do anything that asinine, I assumed he was referring to people on the board that should't breed.

Silly me.

Nice use of Godwin's fallacy. :)

I don't support the kids being taken away, but I do think the court should force the parents to change the kid's names and to leave the rest of the case to child services.

God, save us from Liberalism!!!
