One in five Californians say they need mental health care

Lived there. Hated it. Left. I'll take Alaska, Florida, Nevada, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maine, Utah, Montana, Kentucky, and even ****ing New York or Florida (all states I've either lived or spent considerable time in) over Cali any time. You can keep it. Hopefully one day the fault line will fix our problem for us and just separate Cali from the rest of the country.

Oh noes!!! What will we do then when we lose our national reserves of hair bleach and silicone!??!!??!

You aren't making any point about anything I stated. You are trying to make Alaska an issue because you know it's personal to me because I consider it home. I am not going to permit you to do that, especially with irrelevant information.

Alaska doesn't have a 10th of the budget issues that California has.

It doesn't mean anything to say 60 billion in debt. Alaska is an oil producing region with a small population. I mean I guess when your debt is 70% to GDP ratio... it's okay to talk **** about California.

Don't forget the snooty attitudes, self-righteous indignation, plastic faces, over-priced everything, and obsession with what other people think and what other people are doing.

Sooo... Jump for joy? ;)

Why do people in states that nobody gives two ****s about talk about California? Talk about being a hater. And it's always the ****ty states full of trash and retards. South Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey. I mean at least when New York was talking **** about us in the 90s we had something with class to deal with. But Illinois? I'm from a state where you can ski AND surf on the same day. You can see celebrities walking down the street and then hit a library with the budget of a small Midwest city. Why should I care what people in Nowhere'sville USA say about us?

Hi, I'm Californian. And I'm proud to be insane.

Wow, talk about a hate filled diatribe. Clue for ya dude....I am not from here, I am a transplant so there you have it.

There's no income tax in Alaska, the market is strong and favors business, and the leases on the oil fields supply a steady stream of income to fund repayment of those debts. The high debt to GDP ratio stems from the constant infrastructure projects underway to make an inhospitable climate into a livable, comfortable environment to attract more business and talent to run those businesses. And they do all this without a sales tax or an income tax.

California pays for what with its debt? Oh yeah, clean drug needles, funeral security for Michael Jackson, and designated parking spaces at the government buildings for TMZ.

So yeah, it's perfectly ok to talk **** about the slime hole california is once you've experienced the pristine beauty and sensible mindset of Alaska, the greatest state in this union.

And you can add to that California's use of the the police force as an income source, total disregard for personal liberty in regards to freedom from government intrusion into your life. You have to have a license for everything...practically need one to rake the leaves in your yard. Water shortages, rolling brown outs, 9.5% sales taxes.

Hell, that sorry excuse for "music" that came out of Watts and Compton should have been enough to instigate a napalming of the place.

I almost moved to California twice. My dad worked out there for about 6 months. He hated it, and I'm eternally grateful that I didn't move there. The headline doesn't surprise me.

Born and raised in California, have traveled everywhere, and would never leave.

California, similar to New York, is the hub of culture. Movies, music, fashion, art, social change, it all starts in California and slowly works it's way across the nation. There is a reason California has a GDP double that of every other state in the US and rivals most European countries.

On top of that we have almost year round 72 degree sunny weather with skiing within a two-hour drive of anywhere during the winter, widely available great PRIVATE school systems, top hospitals in the country, and a healthy mix of political parties.

I will say Californian's are much more vane people then a lot of the country (excluding New York). We like our high value cars, big houses, and fit bodies.

the recession probably has contributed to worsening mental health for even more people, said the lead author of the study, David Grant.

Ehh I don't agree with that at all.
Many modern social and political changes were made outside of California.

Sounds pretty arrogant to say that it's the center of all that stuff.
Movies yea, music ehh it's produced there but much else.

Care to name some?

Care to name some?

Yea pretty much everything prior to the settlement and incorporation of the state.

Not to mention that the only reason musicians and wannabe actors go to Cali is because that is where the freaking studios are.
Of course, people tend to forget that not all of those individuals actually came up with their ideas in California.
As if that actually mattered.

How can I be jealous of where I ****ing live?

California is a dirty, over crowded, and ill run **** hole.

No, Los Angeles is a dirty, over crowded and ill run **** hole. I agree. Just about the entire rest of the coastal region does not.

You didn't name any.

Blacks getting the right to vote
Ending slavery
Women's suffrage
Roe v Wade

Just to name a few

Those all happend in differen't states. If your argument is that social change happens largely in California, and OTHER places. That's fine :D
