It sounds like to me there are numerous admendments that they want to at least introduce for consideration, but that is apparently being flatly rejected.

which is why i expressed interest in the matter of the amendments
were they unacceptable to the demos
did the demos want not to be seen as caving into the repubs by allowing more than three amendments
and were those amendments germane to the bill, itself
once we learn the content of those amendments we might better evaluate which side was most responsible for the failure of a much needed bill

LOL....the problem with "Trickle down economics" is that it is based on the belief that if you give big tax breaks to corporations and business, that it will "trickle down" to the consumer. The fact is.....it rarely trickles down very much. It didn't work under Reagan and it didn't work under Bush. Bill Clinton corrected the flawed economic policy and Obama is attempting to do the same. But...as usual, the wealthy and those who benefit the most politically from them are fighting it because they don't want to lose their benefits.

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), an architect of the bill, pressed McConnell on the precise number of amendments his side would be satisfied with.

But McConnell punted. "That is the sort of thing that the majority leader and I work on every day, ... and we ought to do that."

Pressed further, McConnell called for regular order, prompting the cloture vote to begin and effectively cutting off the Louisiana Democrat.

Looks to me like the Republicans just want to keep stalling. When asked for how many amendments they would want, they couldn't give an answer, because in reality it didn't matter.

This is their game plan and it's disgusting.

Republicans strategy is to stop the country from recovering, and blaming it on Obama.

As a small business owner, how does this bill benefit me?

    Be specific please.

it will allow you to accelerate depreciation on new purchases
it will provide access to loan monies to community banks if your firm has been unable to obtain financing from the bailed out major banks
it will infuse money to the community banks so that they can continue to compete against those multi-national lenders

So other than acceleration of depreciation which will be offset by the new taxes I must pay and the healthcare I must provide, this is really a bank bill?

Re: Obama pleads with Republicans on small business bill

    From your link --

"If this bill becomes law, small businesses and start ups will see benefits right away."

Obama's plan would offer small banks capital and incentives to lend to small businesses, to unlock frozen credit for the small firms. I think it's safe to say that the government is going to help banks loan money to small businesses who don't qualify for loans.

It would also create tax incentives for new investments by small businesses which want to expand -- for instance, offering quick tax reductions for outlays on new machinery or equipment. The Bush cuts that he wants to repeal do exactly that.

The plan would also wipe out capital gains taxes on key investments in small businesses, in a bid to encourage the flow of capital to such firms. "Small businesses" will get tax breaks while people who are dead will pick up the slack through gvmt confiscation of $550,000 of their AFTER TAX money on a $2 million estate.
Makes sense to me. 'Course, Hellhound, your business may not be "small enough" to qualify. J/K

Probably not. I do very well.

We don't need loans. but it's nice the government is helping banks lend me my bailout money in order for them to lend me said money, so that I can pay thier increased taxes. :
