Well, I was actually kinda kidding. The PROK propaganda machine would pretty much eliminate any chance that they'd eat anything we offered them.

Also, foreign aid to North Korea is going to go wherever the government wants it to go.

All I'm saying is that we don't have a whole lot to fear from North Korea, aside from their ability and willingness to fight a war of attrition. That's the only card in their deck.
I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

I agree. To use a Mao term, North Korea is a paper tiger. They are at war with South Korea. Not sure why the U.S. needs to interfere in their Civil War.
Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Well, aside from the treaty, we're there because the North Koreans are nominally communist.

First, the North Korean government isn't "crazy".

Second, the DPRK is not run by a "communist regime".

What is it like? I don't like Beijing either, but I highly doubt that even they would waste one drop of Chines blood to prop up Kim Jong Il if it meant losing more important partners

The DPRK would make Marx spin in his grave, but words change over time.

I seriously hope we have some super secret way of taking this guy out of power. The last thing we need is WWIII. He is the most insane of World leaders, and it's just sad the way North Koreans have to live under him (especially since most of them probably tower over him).

Also... does anyone here actually take Kim Jong seriously?

People often use the term WWIII so brazenly. World wars need a world wide scope with world powers. Niether Iran, nor North Korea can cause a "world war".

The fact is, for those playing the regime change card, the North Korean leadership would be almost impossible to take down. You start killing them off and you may get even more hardline and erratic leaders in their place.

And on top of that, North Korea can't do anything without the blessing of it's most important ally, China. Who certainly isn't going to go to war with North Korea against their biggest economic partner, America. Fact is China needs you, without you it would not be where it is today. So for now at least it'll keep pyongyang on a leash, everything said by North Korea and Chinese support of North Korea is nothing more then political grandstanding.

Using a Nuclear strike against another nation may be just enough to make it a world wide issue. After all North Korea isn't to friendly with many people. If they suddenly fire a nuke at one nation wouldn't that put many nations on edge. Hopefully China will be able to keep them in check.

I think plenty of North Korea's actions, including most recently this ship sinking, show that in fact North Korea can act without approval from Beijing.
