Nothing can be said for certain on the ship sinking. For all we know (despite NK's governments denial they did it at all, which Will remain the official line for all time) it could have been the rogue actions of a submarine commander, we just don't really know.

There was so little logic in the ship sinking, and as crazy as NK can be, they certainly don't gain anything from it, certainly not from their ally China.

Oh, I am not arguing the point... it bailed the U.S. out of the Great Depression... and it would be a great excuse to default on the loans... and it would force the U.S. to refocus on its manufacturing base...

Also, foreign aid to North Korea is going to go wherever the government wants it to go.
Absolutely, and anyone who thinks it is going to the common people has been watching a little too much propoganda

All I'm saying is that we don't have a whole lot to fear from North Korea, aside from their ability and willingness to fight a war of attrition. That's the only card in their deck.
Actually, they do have another rather potent card. The ability to all but wipe Seoul off the map within an hour through missiles and a quick strike into the city that the Korean and U.S. forces don't have the ability to stop in the first day of any potential war.

Except that the do value the DPRK as a buffer state. They absolutely would never relent to having a pro-U.S. Seoul government allowing U.S. forces to be stationed along the Yalu River across from Dandong. They still make a big deal about how a U.S. jet allegedly bombed the Chinese side of a bridge connecting the two countries prior to the entrance of Chinese "volunteers" into the conflict. I have been there -- I've seen it. It is a pilgrimage site on the border for Chinese.

And as for Chinese blood? They have 1.3 BILLION people and they themselves acknowledge they have an overpopulation problem. Do you think they care about a couple of million so long as it protects their geo-strategic goals.

Having said that, they do not want this conflict NOW. They want it later at a time and place of their own choosing, but anyone who thinks they will relent to a pro-U.S. Seoul regime controlling the entire peninsula just doesn't know what is going on there.

For veterans and other civilians who don't control China's foreign policy. That was 60 years ago when America and China were mortal enemies. Now we are trading partners. They won't like a united Korea, but they know that America doesn't seriously want to invade China. Why would we?

And what's the point of wasting any of it to alienate their biggest trading partner. They exported over $160 billion in goods to the US in the last year. Why piss off that market? North Korea's GDP is barely even 1/4 of that. A buffer doesn't even matter, America could almost as just launch forces into China from South Korea right now if it wanted to.

Then tell me, what is going on down there? Why would China want a useless buffer that is worth a fraction of their trade with the US? The Rulers of China are bad people, I get it. They're also not that stupid.

The DPRK would make Marx spin in his grave, but words change over time.
Sure, up can eventually mean down, and left right...

Orrrr the North Korean regime doesn't even attempt to be "communist". Juche is not communism, no matter how much you think the word "changed over time".
"I do not claim that every incident in the history of empire can be explained in directly economic terms. Economic interests are filtered through a political process, policies are implemented by a complex state apparatus, and the whole system generates its own momentum."

Words change to mean the opposite of what they originally meant all the time. 120 years ago, my lean would be called "Liberal."

They don't try to be Marxist at all. They're Stalinist, which has essentially become a type of Communism. You're talking about semantics.
