Rangel has become a liability to the Democratic Party. And he's a close ally of Nancy Pelosi. This is a very hurtful situation. Someone “special” needs to tell Rangel that his career in the House is over.

since you are an attorney i should not need to explain to you that it is not what corruption you believe is happening but what you can prove

Rangel charged with multiple ethics violations - Politics - Capitol Hill - msnbc.com

House investigative committee on Thursday charged New York Rep. Charles Rangel with multiple ethics violations, a blow to the former Ways and Means chairman and an election-year headache for Democrats.

The committee did not immediately specify the charges against the Democrat, who has served in the House for some 40 years and is fourth in House seniority. The announcement by a four-member panel of the House ethics committee sends the case to a House trial, where a separate eight-member panel of Republicans and Democrats will decide whether the violations can be proved by clear and convincing evidence.

The timing of the announcement ensures that it will stretch into the fall campaign, and Republicans are certain to make it an issue as they try to capture majority control of the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi had once promised to "drain the swamp" of ethical misdeeds by lawmakers in arguing that Democrats should be in charge.
and the swamp is draining, right?

Ok, the last few days we've had the Shirley Sherrod thing in the news. That seems to be dying down. Now they drag out ol' Charlie after waiting two years.

Is there something behind the curtain we should be looking at?

The financial reform bill is done.
The cap and tax bill seems to be dead.

I don't know, the timing just seems odd because his name hasn't been brought up for a while and now Bam!

I would agree. Especially when you remember that his is a "safe" district. Having him move on will not cost the dems a seat in congress.

My instincts tell me that Rangel is about as corrupt as they come. Just something about that guy that makes me want to cover my wallet everytime I see him on TV.

You're kidding right? It's been 2 years since Pelosi was to drain the swamp and she's the person protecting these corrupt people. No one marginally aware of Congress will believe such nonsense as Pelosi cleaning anything. Hence, 11% approval rating for Congress.

Let's hope he's removed forcibly from Congress - as his supporters in Harlem NY apparently like corrupt Federal officials. An investigation there might be warranted as well at the State level. Albany is as dirty as Trenton NJ is... bottom of the barrel.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.
