A wonderful idea, one that could be enforced if we hadn't become an entitlement society. It took over 50 years to undo most of the damage FDR did to us with the New Deal. Now after decades of cramming the genie back into the bottle, we let him back out.

Let's face it - people want all of the freedom to act stupid, but none of the culpability. Having your cake and eating it too. No wonder we're an obese nation.

Personally, I think most people are risk averse.

What's stupid is people needing more then two years to get a job.

What you are failing to take into account is the total destruction that GWB did to our economy....rebuilding it in a year is not that simple.

@ DisneyDude -- Christ. Are we never going to stop blaming Bush? You don't have a grasp on reality.
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."

Why would we stop blaming Bush for the things he is responsible for? Bush is the author and creator of the economy that we are beginning to pull out of. If we can't pull out of it in the next couple of years, then Obama deserves some blame as well....it doesn't mean that Bush is absolved.

BTW....this is DP, not twitter....its very easy to use the quote feature if you want to respond...you don't need the "@"....just a helpful hint.

President George W. Bush’s tax cuts will expire at the end of the year unless Congress acts to delay their sunset.

Some Democrats are now arguing forcefully that a delay is a win-win plan that would help the federal budget without hurting the economy.

That ought to set some hair on fire. They admit tax cuts help the economy at least.
if the clinton tax hikes are reinstated in 2011, that means the Obama re-election effort is gonna take a serious hit if the tax hikes do what Art Laffer and many others expect

What "Tax hikes" were those specifically?

yeah those doctors and small business owners making 300K or those retirees who invested wisely are real aristocrats. Maybe if the middle class were paying more than half of each next dollar they make in income taxes (State and federal) they would stop voting for tax hiking politicians or spendthrifts. How does the government serve the wealthy when the wealthy pay 40% of the income tax yet make only 22% of the income?
