Billboard linking Obama, Hitler draws complaints

Here's the problem with the Hitler thing.

Is there things that Obama has done that one could equate to being similar to what Hitler did in some cases? Yes.

Is the same true with GWB? Yes.

Clinton? Yep.

Bush I? Yep.

Reagan. Yep.

There's things EVERY President does that could be related in some fashion, in some way, to various actions taken by Hitler in hims time presiding over Germany. He was essentially their head of state, and there was a government; there are going to be similarities.

The thing is, you could also compare some things Obama has done or wishes for to relatively unknown world leaders, likely to well known ones like Ariel Sharon or Tony Blair or Margret Thatcher, or to other more questionable ones such as Arafat or Gorbachev. You could even compare some of what he's done to FDR, Nixon, or even Reagan.

Same thing for the other Presidents I named.

So why always the focus on Hitler? Those that do it, in the moment, say "I'm just comparing something he's doing to something Hitler did, I'm not saying he's killing millions of people". But WHY Hitler, when there's likely another example?

And the reason is obvious...

Hitler is well known first, second, and third for the murder of the jews and the world war that he began. Most of the various other things are well behind those two factors. Which means immedietely in the vast majority of the population those are the imagery and the thoughts that pop into their mind when you think "Hitler". To suggest that, at the very least, someone is not trying to connect that extreme negative connotation that Hitler has to the individual that's being compared to him over an issue NOT having to do with the two above is absolutely disingenuous because if not they'd equally use any number of other historical examples. While the individual may not be trying to say "See, Hitler did this, [President X] is doing this, they're alike and he's leading us to Nazi-ism and killing millions" blatantly (and some people do even do that), what they are doing is trying to go "Know all of your hatred you have towards Hitler because he murdered millions of jews and plunged the world into war? Well you should have that hatred towards [President X] becaus his [Policy Y] is similar in some way to Hitler's [relatively minor or less important/known Nazi Policy Z]".

Its the attempt to connect the parties emotioanal hatred for Hitler...which is predicated primarily off the two things I stated above for most people...to the other individual by connecting a completely seperate issue to try and say "they're similar".

Its a dirty, decietful trick, and its poor political discourse on all levels from all sides. At times reality trumps factuality, and the REALITY is that no matter how factually true it may be that "Random health care plan X" is similar in 5 ways to "Random Nazi Health Care Plan Y" all you're doing by making that comparison is riling people up NOT because of the particular legislation but because of the joining of the hatred for Nazisim/Hitler due to the hollocaust/WWII and the emotions associated with it to the other side.

Using Hitler has become so cliche. But my question is why on earth they ended up with Lenin in the ads? I would have expected them to use Stalin. Stalin's atrocities are well known. Lenin suffered from ill health and wasn't even able to govern all that long. He was totally against Stalin becoming leader. I wonder if there is any possibility they really meant to say Stalin.

It is one thing to say "Our leaders plan is the same as Hitler's." That would be obviously false. And I don't think people are trying to piggy back Obama's negatives with Hitlers old baggage. It is simply better to have a cautious and curious society instead of one that is scared to compares similarities of our best and worst.

Germany was taking through a lemming stage and I think some people just want to make sure America doesn't go through the same thing. Hitler convinced his country to establish a huge civilian army and then later mercs where established into that army. In places that would define the S.A. The will of the poeple subverted. People make rash decisions in times of crisis sometimes. And alot of crisis situations have been popping up lately.

Why was Obama talking about establishing new armies here while our normal, custom army is out and abroad? Why is it taboo to hold memories of the past up to those who have responsability? If someone where to compare me to Satan I would reflect upon myself more than anything. The most fresh thing on my mind would be reflecting upon myself and if I really am like Satana and then to convince myself that I am not but have messed up a few times.

The Obama is quite dutifully following GWB's plan for the Iraq war, thank you.
Even Biden said that He's doing such a good job that it is one of His administrations greatest accomplishments.

WELL, well what do we the voters know about what's really going on in the White House.... There is a constant Spin on everything we hear from our Elected Leaders and the Media....
Am I suppose to believe that the Obama Adminstration have no plans of distinguishing themselves from the last adminstration agenda and are following the " Bush Blue-Print " for war in the Middle East ????

Citation, please.

Look up Larry Sinclair...hey...The One admits to the drug use...he got it from SOMEONE...

But dont lose sight of the whole post. Everyone in his inner circle was white...he was straight up white til it became politically expedient to become "Barrack Hussein"...then he dropped the Hussein part when that became a liability.

Im just sayin...he's NOT a racist. he just uses minorities.

Don't forget. Obama is part white.

It was wrong when liberals did it to Bush and its wrong when conservatives do it to Obama.

Divide by zero, though I would change it a little bit:

It was wrong when some idiots did it to Bush, it's wrong when some idiots do it to Obama. I know I don't want to be associated with people who think comparing the president to Hitler, and I suspect you don't really too. People who do this **** are not liberals or conservatives, but idiot hacks...kinda their own party.

Who do you think Obama is more like? Hitler or Martin Luther King Jr? (sorry cant think of any super awesome leaders of nations)

Who was Reagan more like, Ghandi or Idi Amin?

Stupid comparisons....

You are going to have odd comparisons from many spectrums when world leaders are getting peace prizes while agressing other nations.

Weak. Use of what drug. And you just flipped from "his crack dealer was WHITE" to "he got it from someone."

Look up Larry Sinclair...hey...The One admits to the drug use...he got it from SOMEONE...

but he identifies himself as Black...

If you witnessed him robbing a gas station and you didn't know him, how would you describe him?

YOU PEOPLE HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ....
When did America become so color blind that a man with the skin color tone of Obama could grow up believing or thinking he is white... Nah it can't be done in America even if he wanted too... Someone White, Black or in between Color would have the guts to tell him and let him know which side of the fence to sit on...

Some suggestions to replace Hitler: SATAN! Pol Pot, Dracula, Binky Brown, Alfred E Neuman, Atilla the Hun, Nero, the Pillsbury Dough Boy, Benedict Arnold, Whopee Goldberg, Barbara Streisand, Madonna, and the Easter Bunny.:bunny::blastem:

It's not just Obama who is divisive, the whole of the Republocrats run on it. Swallowing the lines of Hannity or Beck is just as divisive as anything else; and those guys are also ****ing morons. No one should listen to them because it's all hyperpartisan, horribly divisive BS crap meant more as entertainment than fact.

Who should we listen to? Leftists, who defend the racial hate groups? I think I'll stick with Hannity, Beck and Rush.

Give us some examples. bet you can't even get close to any real comparison. The same can't be said about Obama, when comparing him to Hitler.

In all reality, though, the best comparison would be to compare Obama to Mussolini.
