New Offshore Oil Moratorium not Focused on Depth

Obama issued a new moratorium today. I am in shock, this idiot hasn't learned yet. A federal judge overturned his last one so what does he do? Change a few words and issue another one.

    This man should be impeached.

To the mods, I don't understand the posting of news where it should be etc. If this is in the wrong area or posted incorrectly for some reason feel free to move it. I don't post much new news so I haven't learned the ropes of posting here yet. I looked and didn't see another thread on this so if there is and I missed it, just let me know via a post in this thread and you can lock or merge at will.

I've never seen contempt like this for the courts as coming from actual politicians. They lost on gun control in Chicago and passed a new bill anyway, they lost on the moratorium and passed a new one anyway. Like spoiled children they don't get their way and almost dare the court to enforce the decision, I hope this backfires in a big way and that legal consequences follow.

I might be mistaken but didn't a report come out not too long ago showing just how many oil rigs could be at risk of the same fate as the BP rig? I think it was in the 1,000s.

Obviously there is no proven plan of action if a blowout preventer fails, why not just chill and get some revised safety regulations and plans enacted before we start drilling again? I thought it was a wise move.

And in 60 years of drilling in the gulf, this is the first time a blowout and oil leak of this magnitude has happened. I think playing chicken little this quickly is a little bit jumping the gun.

I haven't seen anything like that. Anything saying such is speculative at best and dishonest at worst, this was a freak accident nothing more nothing less.

And obviously the entire economy is at risk and obviously the current class of morons don't care. Obviously the court got it right the first time and obviously these childish control freaks aren't going to accept anything less than getting their way. If we had tried this as individuals we'd be guilty of contempt of court and there is no defending this.

I guess jobs are like roaches to Obama.

If they're really concerned about drilling under water then they should just permit drilling on land instead - and encourage everyone to relocate for those jobs.

Because oil rigs don't "chill." They move on if there is no work. A rig costs between 250,000 and 500,000 dollars a day to keep in place. What company can afford to pay for a rig to sit out there doing nothing while the gov't tries to figure out what to do? That's insane!

During the "chill" period tens of thousands would lose their jobs. I will say, BCR, that you have the best interests in mind and I appreciate that, but we can't just stop drilling. It doesn't work that way. BOP's practically never fail so nobody even considered what to do if one didn't. It was like the sun coming up in the morning, we take it for granted as it always happens. Nobody has a plan if the sun doesn't come up one morning.

And truth be known, we don't know why the BOP failed. My dad said they found 2 strings of drill pipe in there for some reason. If that's the case, the BOP wouldn't be able to shut off the flow. That's HUMAN error, not mechanical. No amount of regulation will take the human error out of the human.

We'd still lose the best paying jobs under that scenario though, the tenders and divers make quite a bit more than the rig hands. While I will concede that losing those guys only would be much better than losing the whole thing, when six-figure a year incomes dry up it's still not a good thing.

I think Bill Maher said it best when jobs conflict with the environment "F### your jobs". To me environment comes first, oil really has been the root of so many of our problems.
