However, just about an hour ago, BP announced that it would take four to seven days to complete the work of fitting/securing the new cap. This doesn't sound good, folks.

4 to 7 days as opposed to 4 years to let the well bleed dry on it's own isn't good news?

Originally, BP said the job would most likely be finished by tomorrow.

Today, they're saying maybe Thursday, maybe a week from today.

BP's assessment of its ability to handle this disaster of their own making has been in question from day one. Today's announcement is one more example of their guile. They have misrepresented everything they've done thus far, and have proven themselves utterly incapable of honesty through their words, and completely lacking in planning and foresight in their craft.

Pardon me if I have no faith in BP's honesty or ability throughout this entire event.

Er, no, "originally" BP did not have control of the spill at all, and before this story no one was expecting a solution until August. 4-7 days from today seems pretty good.

I recommend reading the OP and/or the title of this thread. It will help you to avoid appearing like a fool.

BP's original assessment of success in fitting the new cap:

If all goes according to plan, the combination of the cap and the new vessel could collect all the leaking oil by Monday.
That assessment has now been walked back four to seven more days.

If BP say Tomorrow, I would take that as being this year, next year, sometime, maybe.
If The Obama administration was saying this, i would refer everyone to whatever BP is saying.

Quote(White House says it could contain 90 percent of spilling oil
    By Michael O'Brien - 06/15/10 07:27 AM ET

The Obama administration's plan to contain oil leaking from a deepwater pipeline could be sucking up as much as 90 percent of the spewing oil by the end of June.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that the strategy BP is pursuing — at the behest of the federal government — will have a high efficiency rate in containing the oil spill by the time the end of this month rolls around.)

Right, and that's not bad news. The spill being under control in 4-7 days is not bad news.

I swear you're like a game show contestant who gets bummed out when they fail the final question and walk away with "only" $100,000 instead of the million. they didn't lose $900,000 because they didn't have a million in the first place. They walked out of the studeo $100,000 richer. That's not a loose. That's a gain. Just ask their IRS agent.

Likewise this spill was not under control before BP revised their time-line to then get upset about it.

FT.com / US & Canada - New BP oil well cap to take days to fit

Quote(New BP oil well cap to take days to fit

    By Ed Crooks

    Published: July 11 2010 16:02 | Last updated: July 11 2010 16:02

BP will take until Wednesday at the earliest to fit the new sealing cap to its leaking Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, the company said on Sunday.

The new 80-ton cap is intended to allow all the oil spewing from the well to be captured by vessels on the surface, and could allow the flow to be stopped altogether by closing off valves. It will also help with the operation to kill the leaking well using one of two relief wells.

However, while it is being fitted, the flow of oil into the water from the blown-out well will increase by thousands of barrels per day.

Kent Wells, BP’s senior vice-president who is the company’s public face for the effort to plug the well, remained cautious over the weekend about whether the cap could allow the Macondo well to be shut in, and about when the relief wells – seen as the only long-term solution to the leak – might be effective.)
