I find it perfectly reasonable to field these issues to men and women actively in service, since the policy changes will affect them directly. It's also useful for getting feedback on how living and working might need to be restructured to accommodate this rule change. Make no mistake though, it's going to be lifted. It's just a matter of figuring out the most accommodating way to do it.
As for the other stereotypical remarks about gays in this thread, I find them to be the distasteful echos of the mindset of a former generation that is stifled by ignorance, and a reminder of why progression is needed.
