My identity is mine to publish when and where I see fit, provided that I'm not engaged in an activity that either requires a license or represents a threat to public safety.

I'm really at a loss why anyone who expects me to show ID to a police officer who requests it under any other circumstances.
I'm already gearing up for Finger Vote 2014.

Just for reference, means my post was a giant steaming pile of sarcasm.

Really? Do you honestly believe that someone on the scene who is bent on harming others is going to be stopped in their tracks because a police officer asked them for identification?

Because if I'm not representing a threat to public safety, the police should have no right whatsoever to harass me.

Police officers are people, just like you and I. They don't magically become better people simply because they wear a uniform.

    Well, no, not everyone.

People are going to get away with all sorts of **** whether we empower the government to harass us or not.

Oh yeah... the whole keeping people safe thing. Kind of reminds me of a quote from the Simpsons:

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm!
    Lisa: Thatís specious reasoning, dad.
    Homer: Why thank you, honey.
Lisa: By your logic, I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Hmm. How does it work?
Lisa: It doesnít work; itís just a stupid rock!
    Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I donít see any tigers around, do you?
Homer: Hmm... Lisa, I want to buy your rock.

    Perfect.

If you don't like some of the things that go on in your county, state or country and want to do something about it?

If all of the people (like Harry Guerilla) who love to bitch and moan about the government would actually go and vote, then we might see some governmental enthusiasm in what the people want.

Who could I possibly vote for, that has a chance of getting elected and will represent anything I believe?
Not a soul, voting serves me no purpose.

The lesser of two evils, is still choosing evil.

Unless, of course, like the great Lewis Black once said, it's a choice between two bowls of ****, the only difference being the smell.

Democracy doesn't work if no one running represents my views.

Democracy doesn't work when corporations can buy all levels of government.

If casting a vote did a damn thing, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in: an economy in shambles with jobs and the rights of our people being sold to the highest bidder, and foreign powers; corrupt, crony capitalism where people's rights are stomped on in the name of obscene profits; a population whose health has never been worse than it is now; and unsustainable, unjust wars that are killing good men and women for nothing.

It's people who educate, protest, and spread knowledge that change societies. The government just wants to expand its own powers at this point, at the expense of your rights. It doesn't matter which party is in power. You are just product to them. You turn their wheels. Then they divide you righteously so that you fight among yourselves over which party is the best.

They've got you figured out and the brilliant thing is you think you still have full democratic power over them.
