BP Is Burning Sea Turtles Alive, Gulf Captain Says

I'm not belittling the tragedy, but air breathing animals such as turtles, whales, dolphins, etc, don't use the water for air consumption. So the decrease in O2 in the water would not affect their breathing. It wouldn't make them come to the surface any sooner since they get their air from the surface and rely upon that single breath the whole time they are down.

However, the low oxygen levels cause other problems, such as killing anemones, sea stars, sea cucumbers, crabs, fish, etc.

Good point - so that takes out possible water-level oxygen depletion and leaves everything else.

Admit it... it's all the sea turtles' fault. They're just blaming BP because they hate America.

LOL - It's Bush's fault, somehow.

I agree (are you shocked??)

As far as the turtles not knowing they can dive under the booms, every turtle I've ever encountered in the ocean immediately dove to get away. Diving to safety is their first instinct.

That's so 5 years ago. It's all Obama's fault now.

LOL - 5 years ago :rofl

I think some people are confused.

BP is: Rounding up OIL and burning off the OIL.
Animals are: getting rounded up WITH the OIL and being burned WITH the OIL.

BP is not finding the animals *just* to kill them.
The guy in the OParticle was saving the turtles from the burn-field before the field was set on fire . . . and now is not allowed to do so.

Here's the thing I just can't wrap my head around,....

BP spends BILLIONS in locating and drilling for oil more than a MILE beneath the ocean surface.

Something goes wrong and OIL begins to rise to the surface.

MILES of it.

So, what do they do?

Gather it all up and set it on fire!

What the **** is that about?

If you can gather it up to burn it. Why can't you collect it, put it in barges and take it to processing?

I don't get it.

Everyone's crying out "faster faster" - well - be careful what you wish for.
This is quite a quick way of getting rid of the ****.

With all the technology we have,.... I don't believe it for a minute that in the event that the okay (FREE OIL!) was given,... salvagers and scavengers would find a way to grab the majority of the oil before it ever had a chance to reach shore.

Then it appears to me that Green Peace is negligent in performing their duties to save animals.

and when they are bankrupted, who will pay all the people BP said they were going to pay?

Eff the turtles, they were dead anyway.

But don't they deserve a decent burial?

Yeah... ask any fisherman what a fish does when it's in danger. It dives. Same for any sea life, they go deep fast.

No doubt though that some turtles are going to get caught up, perhaps they come up for a breath and get oil instead, diminishing their capacity to dive at all. Perhaps the ones caught up are already dead. Sea turtles dive for hours at a time.

You'd think even a turtle wouldn't come up for air in a dark part of the water; they'd seek out where light is.

Creole Turtle Soup Recipe

Roux:
1 Cup Unsalted Butter
1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour

4 Tbsp Usalted Butter
1 lb Turtle Meat Cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 1/2 Cup Onion, Finely Diced
1 Cup Celery, Finely Diced
1/4 Cup Green Onion, Finely Sliced
2 tsp Garlic, Minced
2 Fresh Bay Leaves
1 1/2 Cup Fresh Tomato, Diced
1 Qt Beef Stock
1 Pinch Cayenne
1 Pinch Ground Allspice
2 Tbsp Fresh Thyme Leaves
1 Tbsp Fresh Marjoram, Chopped
Salt and Black Pepper to taste
1/4 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice
4 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
3 Tbsp Sherry
3 Hard Boiled Eggs, Whites diced, Yolks Riced
Lemon Slices
5 tsp Italian Pasley, Finely Chopped

Melt the 1 Cup of Butter in a heavy bottomed saucepan, whisk in the flour, cook to make a peanut butter colored Roux. Set aside. For more on making a Roux, click here.
In a large saucepan or dutch oven, melt the 4 Tbsp of Unalted Butter over medium-high heat, add the diced Turtle Meat and saute until nicely browned.
Lower the heat to medium, add both types of onions, the celery, and garlic. Season with salt and black pepper. Saute until the vegetables are tender.
Add the tomatoes, season with a little salt so they will break down, cook for 10 minutes.
Add the Beef Stock, Worcestershire, Cayenne, Allspice, and Bay Leaves. Bring to a boil, then down to a simmer. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally and skimming off any impurities that may rise to the surface.
Whisk in the Roux, simmer until thickened and smooth. Add the Thyme, and Marjoram, simmer for 15-20 minutes more.
Add the Lemon Juice, 3 tsp of the Parsley, and the riced Egg Yolk, heat through.
Serve garnished with Lemon Slices, Diced Egg Whites, and Parsley. Add the Sherry at the table, about 1-2 tsp per bowl.

Serves 4-6

Wait, I thought the left didn't believe in Fox News! So why now? Could it be because a boat captain is talking about poor sea turtles? Where's the other side of the story?

The other side?

*waves hands*
you didn't see anything
*waves hands again*
nothing happened

Or should I be mocking "please, may I have your attention?"

I think the Coast Guard needs to check this captain out.

Is it just me, or is there a bit of a disparity between what BP will be expected to pay in reparations for this ($20 billion for the fund, just for starters) and the $470m Union Carbide paid to settle the Bhopal disaster in which 20,000 Indians died?
