Etheridge caught in on-camera confrontation

I heard the WWF offered him a contract.

.

Indeed, The man knows how to handle himself...

The fox news teabrains are real vocal when they're in a crowd, yelling all kinds of vile, senseless crap they heard on Glenn Beck...

But get 'em one-on-one... and they turn as yellow as the stain in their boxers. "we're just students..." No, son, you're a putz.

Talk about folding... no wonder they blurred out their faces. Shame.

Yes, that's why his nickname in Congress is Jerk-off.

Vile, senseless crap? Like asking for government to respect The Constitution and our Liberties?

We do not have rent-a-mobs, aren't trained in disobedience, don't hand-cuff ourselves to anything and everything, don't shout obsenities all-day, smell like Cheetah and look like Jane, burn flags, call for the demise of America, spit on our troops, and wish them ill or for their death.

We are a very different crowd. That is true.

These kids exemplify the best of conservatism. In a suit, greeting the Congressman in a civil tone, and calling him "Sir", while asking him His position on something that matters.

These kids did the same type of idiot in-your-face journalism that many cheered on when it was done by Michael Moore, moveon, or other liberal groups. If the roles were reversed here, there's no chance you'd be belittling the kids and defending someone like John Cornyn.

I was waiting for someone to make the Micheal Moore comparison. Let's look at how Moore approaches people on the street.

"Hello Congressman, I'm Michael Moore, can we ask you a question?" -- He does this rarely, most of his interviews are scheduled and shot in an office.

Yeah, Moore acts like a dick sometimes, asking questions meant to get a reaction (just like these turds did) but given his notoriety, his style, his body size... He's totally non-threatening. People swat his camera down and he owns it and has fun with it.

These two dicks are tying to make it like they were boyscouts offering an old man a hand. "The Obama agenda..."?? I guess that's Glenn Beck code for anything they think is wrong with the country...

I see two little jerks running up to an old man and shoving a camera in his face asking a stuttering-John type question meant to provoke him.... what do you see?

What I love about this guy and the far-rightie's response to the story is how you all talk so big about your guns and your wars and your "taking back the country" but when some old dude grabs you by the scuff of your neck, you practically wet your pants...

Classic!!:peace:peace:lamo:lamo

I think the reason the faces were blurred out is to hide the tears in the little boy's eyes when he found out the other meaning of 'gotcha journalism...' -- when your intended victim grabs you and says: "Who are you?"

So your argument is that this is much worse than Michael Moore because:

1) They're not fat, and
2) You disagree with their political leanings

?

When the congressman asked these shinning examples of conservatism, "Who are you?" "What school?" What did these respectful lads say? NOTHING.

(keep in mind there are several cuts, edits, where we don't know what he else said or asked, but he asked them who they were with before grabbing them)

And why did they blur out their faces? Don't these respectful little boys want us to know who they are?

So, hazlnut, you think it's okay for some writer/journalist to move in next door to the Palins, but two college kids asking a public representative a question about the President's agenda on the sidewalk is totally inappropriate and deserving of physical retaliation?

When you paraphrase me, at least try to get it 50% right.

Thanks.:peace

Why the **** should they have answered?

Ah, the "omg its faked" angle.

And why did they blur out their faces? Don't these respectful little boys want us to know who they are?

Because they anticipated that people like you would do everything in their power to smear them?

WTF is wrong with you? Seriously? What in that jacked up, small mind of yours went wrong and stunted in development in such a way as to make you think that a public official's response to a kid asking him a question under the pretense of journalism should be to batter the kid, wrenching his arm, pulling him into a restraining position, etc? Where did society go so wrong that it created a vile, wretched and disgusting idealogue so blinded by his hatred for a group of entirely unrelated people to the subject at hand that he couldn't see the abuse that was presented to him?

Dude, I am so done with you at this point. Basically all I get out of reading anything you post is a decrease in intelligence and an increase in blood pressure that comes from realizing there really are ignorant jackasses like you ingrained in our political discourse. I don't listen to Olbermann for the same reason I have decided the only place for you is on the ignore list: you're both loud-mouthed, tunnel-visioned douches who talk a lot but say very, very little.

Etheridge reacted poorly. I think there is no real question there. I do to an extent feel for him. Just because you are a public official does not mean people should be able to try and get an on camera interview any time they want. The kid was being a dick. That does not excuse Etheridge's behavior, but he was not the only one whose behavior was inappropriate.

damn
i feel like i need to shower. my position is aligned with those whose take normally makes me wonder 'are they really that stupid?'
that alone caused me to question how i see this
but it looks like i will have to hit the shower because i still agree with 'them' on this matter

redress, you have this wrong
because he is a public figure - in this instance an elected public servant - asking the congressman a question is fair game, as long as you have a right to be wherever the question is asked
in this instance, the junior reporters were fully within their rights to ask the question of the NC congressional representative. etheridge is someone who has not faced opposition in years and one whose elected position will not be at risk because of his stupid response to the breithbart boys

don't see how the kids were being dicks. what is so wrong about asking the demo congressional rep if he supports the Obama agenda? nothing i can see which is illegitimate about the question

and yes, etherridge is the ONLY one whose behavior in this incident was inappropriate

i still feel dirty being on the 'wrong' side of this issue
pass me the soap

Meh. Etheridge was an asshat.

/thread (and possibly, /Etheridge's career)

So, hazlnut, you think it's okay for some writer/journalist to move in next door to the Palins, but two college kids asking a public representative a question about the President's agenda on the sidewalk is totally inappropriate and deserving of physical retaliation?

Fair question.

What did the boys ask the congressman?

Was it a serious question or just meant to get response? "the Obama agenda"

And when they were asked who they were with, why didn't they respond?

You'd think at journalism school they'd teach students to write or telephone the office.

Re: Sarah Palin. Besides moving into the house next to her, what else has the respected publish writer of non-fiction done? I think if he had know what a vindictive evil **** she is, he would have turned down the offer to rent the house.

hazlnut, the congressman was wrong.

Why the **** should they have answered?

Because at reporter school they teach you to identify yourself.

Because they anticipated that people like you would do everything in their power to smear them?

I'm giving my honest reaction to the video. I think it's funny watching two O'Keef wannabe's get the snot scared out them on their first outing.

I hope the congressman doesn't catch too much flack over this.

He looks like he was fed up with the teabag mentality (aren't we all?) and two little boys playing at being reporters just pushed him too far.

I think there is some confusion. Let me clarify things a bit here as to my stance.

1) AS things are now, the kids where within their legal rights. I do not advocate any change to this, nor will there be.

2) Just because you have a right to do something, does not mean you should do it. There are a number of ways to contact congressmen for interviews, to get questions asked, and so on. Stopping busy people in the street is not the right way to do things.

They could have asked him if his children ****ed puppies in their eye-sockets and it wouldn't have justified laying hands on them.

Tucker, put it all in context.

the climate in DC, you're walking alone, two boys approach you and shove a camera in your face, asking teabag questions...

Not justified... but mitigates.

Fair question.

What did the boys ask the congressman?

Was it a serious question or just meant to get response? "the Obama agenda"

And when they were asked who they were with, why didn't they respond?

You'd think at journalism school they'd teach students to write or telephone the office.

Pardon my French, but what god damn difference does it make whether or not it was a serious question? This is a free country and he is a public official in a public place. They could have asked him if he wears a silk teddy underneath his suit and it still wouldn't justify his reaction.

And these young men were under no obligation to tell this goon who they're with or who they are. This is just a silly red herring you've thrown out in order to confuse the issue.

When are you going to admit the obvious: this man was totally out of line and committed a crime.

Re: Sarah Palin. Besides moving into the house next to her, what else has the respected publish writer of non-fiction done? I think if he had know what a vindictive evil **** she is, he would have turned down the offer to rent the house.

Just to clarify: You think it's okay for some old man to move in next to a private citizen and her family in order to write a book about them and profit off it, but two colleges kids asking a public official in a public place a question about the President's agenda is wrong and deserving of physical retaliation?

Do you not see how utterly absurd and out of touch your position is?

Tucker, put it all in context.

Seriously, you know you are just making this worse, right?

No, it doesn't mitigate it either. He's a Congressman. This goes with the territory.

I'd take 10:1 odds that had the roles had been reversed, this would be on the front page of HuffPost instead of the front page of Drudge and you'd be in here talking about how the reTHUGlican should be arrested.

Seriously, you know you are just making this worse, right?

Redress,

I'm starting to think that maybe hazlnut isn't really a liberal at all. I think he or she just might be posing as one in order to make you guys look angry and unstable.
