Ummm... winston. Reagan was governor about 40 years ago. And I would have to disagree with you. I'd say with pretty good assurity that CA is a liberal state, overall.

I lived there, it is in no way a conservative state. Has not been for a long time bud.

It's funny how often we use very outdated information. I mean I am guilty of it as well.

On another message board we were debating evolution. Somehow we were on the subject of DNA and the human genome. It was awhile ago but I remember saying human DNA is so complicated it has not even been mapped. Guy posted the link showing it was completed like two years earlier, lol. I felt stupid, but this is another good example.

I, too, spent time in Iceland, and noticed the rampant paganism. Fortunately Zeus doesn't seem to have that much of a problem with gay marriage, which is a good thing, because that dude can hurl lightning bolts.

    California isn't a liberal state?

So in your world Obama must be a republican. Whats that like?

    Both of you, demographics fail.

SoCal tends to be somewhat more liberal but you have to remember that Orange County is an EXTREMELY conservative area and is the seat of some of the powerhouses of the Religious Right AND it gave us the American Independent Party. NorCal is generally more conservative with the exception being Sacramento.

Other than LA and Sacramento (and some would argue, San Diego), California is actually pretty conservative. Our governors and elected officials are usually Republicans and we had a bitter slug-fest over gay marriage, something that people expected to pass here by a landslide.

Our major population centers tend to be more liberal (as they do in every state in the country) and thus the more groundbreaking political work comes out of a more progressive mindset, but to say that California itself is liberal is horribly wrong.

I've lived here my entire life, there are plenty of righties drifting around

My God I can't believe you are trying to peddle this nonsense.

    Here are the facts

9th Circuit Court. Most liberal court in America and most overturned.

Both chambers of the California legislature have been dominated by the Democratic Party since 1970 except from 1995 to 1996, when the Republican Party briefly held a majority in the lower chamber.

There hasn't been a republican senator from California for almost 20 years. (1991)

California majority by county in 2008

    Democrats 43%
    Republicans 15%

    http://www.stat.berkeley.edu/~statcu...ivelVoters.pdf

Among all voters in California, 45% are registered as Democrats and 31% as Republicans. Voters who “decline to state” a party are the third-largest group overall, at 20%.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/cali...publicans.html

There goes your demographic BS claim.

I've seen some epic fails dude but you take that cake with that one.

California is moderately liberal at best. Yeah areas like LA, SanFran, and Sacramento are extremely liberal, and those are the ones we always hear about, but California is the most populated state in the country. There are millions of people in that state who don't live in those areas. They just don't get noticed as much. The exception being when they mobilized to revoke gay marriage in 2008. I wouldn't call that liberal at all.

LOL Please. I just gave you the numbers. How can you sit there any deny it?

Gay marriage is not a party issue. If it was it wouldn't be 0-31 by voters in this country.

Exactly, you just said it yourself. It isn't a party issue. I'm not denying it at all, CA can be mostly Democratic, but still be against gay marriage because there are plenty of conservative Democrats.
