FBI: Mexican soldiers used rifles to chase off U.S. Border Patrol

Does Mexico classify throwing rocks as assault with a deadly weapon?

I can say "yes" for sure.....

I was watching telemundo one day and saw this melee going on..... the cameraman was behind the rock thrower, the federali returned fire with his m16 and you saw the guy get shot, then the camera go bad....

The news caster was yammering in mexican and I did not need a translater to know, she was saying the moral of this story, is that if you are a cameraman covering a fight between a rock thrower and a federali with a gun, stand behind the federali.

Um no it'll break your ****ing hand in five places. This aint the ****ing movies.

No, it won't. This isn't your fantasy, it's reality. In reality, catching rocks is not difficult.

And also, in reality, it's extremely ****ing difficult to kill someone with a thrown rock. To claim that you would kill me with a thrown rock is about as rational and intelligent as me claiming I could **** Joan of Arc in the back of a Cadilac.

People who know that thrown rocks are extremely unlikely to kill someone in reality.

Basically, it comes down to this: they are using every hyperbole in the book to try to justify a shooting that may or may not have been justified. I will still hold judgment against the agent in this particular instance until an investigation is reported. However, in general, if rocks are coming from behind a boundary, I think the smart and reasonable thing to do is to move away from the boundary out of rock throwing range but still within accurate firing range. Bullet trumps rock in terms of accurate range so I don't think it should be too hard.

American and Jallman,

What I'm suggesting would be intended to deal with the far narrower goal of seeking to reduce the number and frequency of violent incidents along the U.S.-Mexico border, as well as providing an agreed approach for addressing such incidents when they do occur.

The larger, more controversial issue of immigration/economic migration/undocumented immigrants is a separate matter. In the U.S., I don't believe there is a viable alternative to federal immigration policy/reform. That such a policy vacuum exists is a problem. Needless to say, even on the broader issue of immigration/undocumented immigrants, there can be a bilateral component where interests are relatively compatible e.g., aimed at working to reduce the economic disparities that contribute to cross-border migration.

I'm going to have to part ways with you here. The only way for things to change in Mexico is for them to change the fundamental underpinnings of their law. As jallman said, they are corrupt and until that can be addressed, the people will never get any justice. Our job isn't to fix their problems, but protect the American people. If Mexico doesn't want to do anything at the border except promote corruption, smuggling and to antaginize our border patrol....then a military response is the only sound option. The purpose of military force is to gain a political change.

This is reality...this isn't your fantasy

Try throwing some rocks at the Federales or Mexican Army and see what that gets you. If you do come out of it ALIVE, please come back and tell everyone how REAL and exciting it was

Whadda you say?

I'm not the one saying that I want to throw rocks at people. Agent Ferris wants to throw rocks at people.

I'm also not saying throwing rocks at people isn't stupid. It is.

All I'm saying is how I would handle having rocks thrown at me (since agent ferris offered to do so and made the absolutely absurd assumption that it would kill me).

I've caught objects thrown at me with malicious intent in the past, and if someone throws one at me again, I'll do the same again.

With curvebricks, curverocks, slider bricks, slider rocks....even screwbricks and screwrocks thrown at ya....You catch 'em!

Thats simply amazing!

btw - Can you actually catch wild rabbits with your bare hands?

These people weren't throwing various and sundry bricks. They were throwing rocks. At least that's what the article stated.

If I can't catch it, I'll dodge it. Again, not hard. I once had a bottle thrown at my face at a bar from about 10 feet away. Took all of a half second to avoid getting hit.

If they came right at me without changing direction- much like a thrown rock won't change direction- I'm sure I could. If not, I'm sure I could dodge it. I can't imagine that it would be all that difficult.

2008, ABC Video, watch Border Partol Agents "Just being attacked with rocks".

Jall, you need a dose of real life bro.

Allow me to add that one time I didn't manage to dodge a hand thrown projectile. It was a ceramic dog bowl, weighed about 7 pounds, and it was launched at me form about 15 ft. Didn't see it coming and ended up turning into it and got clipped directly in the face. Very similar to what happened to Duncan Kieth when he got hit in the face with that hockey puck a couple of weeks ago..

I spit out the remnants of my teeth and started swinging at about the same time.

Did you win?

But the real question is...

Can you dodge a wrench?

Wow, sorry to here about that sad chapter in your life, but, ya know...We all have “off days” (including top pitchers, baseball hitters...even BPs) which can be attributed to things like wind speed, direction, sun brightness or being distracted, instead of concentrating solely on the brick, rock, a 7 pound ceramic dog bowl....or even a wrench

It wasn't anything other than my own lack of preparedness that caused me to get hit. Had I been prepared, I would have dodged it. It was a learning experience that happened when I was 16. I learned that whenever you are in a situation where someone might try to clip you with a hand thrown projectile, never turn your back on them (as the video shows the BP doing) and always be on the lookout for such projectiles.

It's worked beautifully for me ever since.

Amen, bro that you possess extraordinary supernatural powers of mind and body.

Its truly legendary
