That's hardly true. There are a fair amount of people who are against illegal immigration who also oppose this law. I think there are less "pro-illegal" people than you realize. Your assessment sounds more like propaganda than anything.

Propaganda? I think you are projecting here....

    You just said:

39% approval to 30% disapproval with 31% having no opinion is hardly a vast majority.

With no citation of what poll you could possibly be looking at.

    Here is the real deal:

"Americans who have heard about Arizona's tough new law to crack down on illegal immigrants favor the measure by 51 percent to 39 percent, according to a Gallup poll conducted April 27-28."

Arizona's New Immigration Law Supported by Most Americans, Poll Finds

"A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of voters nationwide favor such a law, while 31% are opposed."

Nationally, 60% Favor Letting Local Police Stop and Verify Immigration Status - Rasmussen Reports

"The Pew Poll, conducted in early May, shows that more than 60 percent of Americans support the Arizona law's separate provisions, which give police increased authority to question and detain people they suspect of being in the country illegally."

Polls on Arizona immigration law remind us of a historic truth: Discarding the civil rights of others is always a popular idea | Crooks and Liars

60% doc. NOT the 39 you report.

This will do nothing but piss people off even more.

The HUGE majority of Americans support the Arizona law, and the media is staying away because they know this. Most people believe the only reason Obama sent the troops down was to police those who support the law, rather than firm up the border. Those people are correct.

Just imagine the numbers if that there "lame-stream media" would have hyped this up for them like Fox did for the tea parties. Put on concerts, send the on air talent out to meet and greet with the people etc.

I'm not against the idea of the Arizona bill, and I don't think they're racist for trying to solve a big problem for their state, but these protesters should get just as much air time as the tea party people.

j-mac, I can tell you that those of us who actually live in border states support that law in far greater numbers than those polls reflect.

I agree, most really don't buy the BS about strengthening our border patrol when only 1,200 troops are sent with no ammo, and no enforcement capability. What a joke.

Re: Thousands march in Phoenix to protest immigration law

I never understand why someone showing me that the majority or X amount of people support or do not support a certain law, why the hell should I change my opinion because it may differ than most other people's? And since when do people actually fully understand the laws, or things, they have opinions on? Most people's opinions are heavily influenced or outright defined by what some asshole told them was right, wrong, and whatever.

People have this logic that if the majority of us support something it must be right, good and will work if only those damn minority dissenters would get outta our way and realize there's more of us than them.

    Anyway I'm just ranting.

Actually, I'm citing the Gallup poll. I was looking at the numbers of "All Americans". I didn't see the numbers of "Americans who have heard of the law"

    Here is the real deal:

Even so, this is a huge issue and people are pretty split about it. The fact that thousands came to protest isn't exactly a surprise. That was my point.

They may be split in Montana, but not along the border states. You don't have Canadians sneaking across your border all day and night by the tens of thousands with heroin up their ass and guns by the dozens.

It may be an intellectual discussion over tea in Seattle and Burlington, VT, but down here, it is real.

What does where I'm from have to do with it? Obviously you didn't comprehend my post. My ONLY point was that it wasn't a surprise that there were thousands of people at the protest.
