Quote(A man who attacked 29 children and three teachers at a nursery school in east China has been executed, state media says.

Xu Yuyuan, 47, knifed his victims at the Zhongzin pre-school in Taixing city in the Jiangsu province on 29 April. )

That would have been April 29th /2010.

This man was arrested, tried, found guilty sentenced to death and finally executed.

Much better system than permitting a condemned person to live in prison for anything up to 18 years and then attempt to escape justice by claiming conversion to religion.

As long as he was found guilty without a doubt and it all wasn't circumstancial I support someone being executed quickly.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

My stance on the death penalty is currently that the state should not be able to seek the death penalty, unless requested by the next immediate family member who is competent.

That would certainly prevent a lot of political posturing and politicians taking credit for a tough-on-crime approach, but that could also turn the families into targets for said politicians. Whether or not the family member requests the death penalty could be a subject of unwanted scrutiny.

Ill take it further, the family should be allowed to execute said criminal.
