fyi Re: BREAKING NEWS: US coastguard says BP has stopped flow of oil and gas from leakin

I heard a Coast Guard official on the radio this morning say that no oil is getting out of the well while the mud is being pumped, that what we see coming out of the well is just mud. It was suggested that even if the top-kill project doesn't work, that we keep pumping mud into the well until the relief wells are finished since doing so has stopped the oil spill.

If top-kill doesn't work then the next step is to slice off the top half of the BOP and attach a dome to it to suck the oil up to tankers.

Purely out of curiosity I'd like to know how many tons of mud they're using and how many tens of thousands of golf balls they have used to assist with plugging the hole.

    .
As of a report I heard last night they've used about 2 million gallons of a modified 'heavy drilling mud'. I'll have time to look into this in depth later and give links, but from what I understand the mud has the consistency of a heavy paste, contains shale clay, and the steel ball bearings are a couple inches in diameter.

I'll search for technical info later this afternoon.

WRAPUP 2-No end in sight as Gulf oil spill hits Day 40 | Reuters

the pressure is so great which is expelling all that oil, it's blowing out whatever mud is pushed down there as well

there's also some fear that if we do cap this thing, all that building up pressure might precipitate an explosion

this is really, really, really bad

comparisons to chernobyl are not far fetched

"obama under fire for slow response" is reuters' sub headline

    oh, boy, is he ever

and it's certainly not chatroomers doing him all this damage

why did they turn off the live feed?

until you see that turned back on there will be no resolution

where are the cleanup workers, where's the head start on the cleanup?

how in the world can he justify no massive clean up on the qt

carville's gone ballistic, he's a local, y'know (and committed clintonista)

our political leadership has put in place AS OF DAY FORTY exactly ZERO in the way of CLEANING UP this MESS

    unbelievable

on day 38 (thursday) the political pressure on the president became so preponderant he was compelled to perform his first press conference in THREE HUNDRED AND NINE DAYS

that's the "daddy, did you plug the leak" recital which will go down in history

    it was a disaster

his entire purpose was to portray to the people his determination, resolve, on-top-of-it-ness that, apparently, had slipped away

yet when he was asked about mms director birnbaum's removal, accomplished that very morning in anticipation of the great event, our nonplussed president reported that he didn't know why she was let go, if she was let go

    he's losing the press

    politico, msnbc's morning regular:

Obama bristled at the notion that the White House response has “lacked urgency” — only to admit, minutes later, that planned reforms of the federal agency monitoring deep water exploration, in fact, lacked “sufficient urgency.”

After he assumed unequivocal responsibility for the spill response, he proceeded to equivocate — blaming Bush-era deregulation, his predecessor’s failure to draft an adequate spill response plan and BP’s arrogance in overlooking flaws in their safety systems.

And he seemed downright uncertain on the circumstances surrounding the departure of Minerals Management Service director S. Elizabeth Birnbaum. “C’mon, I don’t know,” he said at one point, when pressed on whether she quit or was fired.
but then, there's really no other way to report it, it was that bad

this is NOT the way americans expect or need their president to behave, act, y'know, IN A CRISIS

he TRANSPARENTLY has no idea what he's doing

    so he WENT ON VACATION

he actually, when asked a followup by the ny times jackie calmes about, y'know, how could you claim ignorace about what underlay the removal of ms birnbaum, the prez put forth, "i had a whole bunch of other stuff going on"

you know what he was doing that morning, day 38, while the oil was bleeding and the mms was being dismembered

he was being presented his very own o-bama #1 b-ball jersey by the duke blue devils in the rose garden

    allen didn't know

matthews asked obama's top guy, can you use tankers to vacuum millions of gallons of water and oil which you can then separate and dispose of

    Well. Well.
    Well.

Obama did not plug the hole after all.
I wonder what he is telling them to do now.
    President Top Kill.

Did his precious wake up this morning and ask "Daddy... is the hole plugged yet?"
I hope she asked afterwards... WTF are you doing here on vacation then?
"Isn't it time to agitate Daddy?"
"How about ACORN... they fixed a lot before... or how about Mayor Daley? He was good at fixing things?"
"Or Rev. Wright? Perhaps he can give a pep talk?"
"Or Mr. Ayers? He was good at blowing things up?"
"Or is the problem money Daddy? Perhaps Mr. Rezko or Johnston can help?"

    "Daddy?... Daddy?..."

Your posts would be legible if you could dress up the formatting and grammar a bit. I don't care so much about starting sentences with lower case letters as I can speak lolcat also, but if you would organize your thoughts into a linear sequence and then place them is paragraph format, 4-6 sentences per paragraph, I would appreciate it.

Interesting. We all see things through different perspectives.

The style Prof uses is certainly unconventional. But for me makes for a easy flowing read. Along the lines of watching a stream of consciousness outta somebody's thoughts.

(Ok then. So here's the poop, Prof man. You're gonna need to starting double posting. Once in each format. Realize that may be a little time consuming, but a fella does what a fella's gotta do...)
