NYers wage jihad vs. WTC mosque

obviously just grasping for straws to try and go "See, see, hypocrites!"

I have to agree. There has been too much of that in these forums lately.

I answered that already.

And its not a no Muslim zone. Its a no Mosque zone. Please be more careful in your reading.

You know six blocks is pretty huge when it comes to NYC right?

Not to mention the whole "gross infringement upon property rights" that you guys are supposed to be against.

Should they be allowed to build it? Yes. Is it extremely distasteful and disrespectful to do so? Absolutely.

I oppose the new location of the mosque — they should put it on top of the new world trade center and commemorate the memory of the many innocent Muslims who were murdered there on 9/11. Clearly many Americans don't understand the difference between Islam and the vicious ideology preached by Al Qaeda and such a mosque might help us to appreciate the distinction.

Oh yes. Let's just ignore what the Qur'an actually says and what millions of Muslims are taught. Because some are good we should just ignore the motivations of the others.

Anyone who actually thought about this and took into account the victim's families feelings wouldn't say something so ignorant.

Q.E.D.

Waving that bloody shirt must get tiring. You should give it a rest.

Only if you make the "muslim = terrorist" link.

Exactly.
It would be disrespectful and insulting to the members of the mosque, and muslims in general, for there to be this ridiculous restriction on where they can worship. Build a mosque in the lobby.
Despite claims to the contrary I doubt texmaster would object to building a Baptist church next to an NFL stadium if the Westboro "Baptist" "Church" had gone (more) off their rockers and bombed it during a game. Especially if most of the area's population was Baptist.

and what of the innocent Christians and non Christians murdered there on 9/11?

After four hours of public debate, members of Community Board 1 finally voted 29-1 in support of the project. Nine members abstained, arguing that they wanted to table the issue and vote at a later date.

That's Jihad?
Holy ****. I had no idea.

If people are allowed to prevent this mosque from being built, then the terrorists have won.

As long as peoples of all faiths are barred fron worshipping in this mosque, the terrorists have won.

When anyone, aside from Islamics, are allowed to enter this mosque and worship, I'll support it. Until, then, they should choose another country to build thier mosque in.

Muslim hating Americans hiding behind 9/11 family victims are contemptible.

Why we have freedom of religion in this country. And they legally obtained the property and even though it angers people they are still allowed to build their mosque there.

I don't know exactly how the New York zoning and property right's work as I do not live there but in most places it is up to the person selling the property and the regulations for that zone. Judging from what I read in the OP... The Mosque leader wants it built *near* ground zero, not *on* ground zero so I do not see anything wrong here. Ground zero itself already has plans for a memorial, but the lots around it are being sold or rebuilt by the owners.

So you would support Muslims coming into your church to worship Allah?

You're exactly right. However, discrimination is illegal in this country. They are within their rights to build a mosque, but are violating the law by not allowing other religions to worship in their mosque.

There is a Muslims family that attends my church, because they were kicked out of thier mosque for cooperating with the FBI after 9/11.

So, ****in-a I support Muslims coming to my church. They have been welcomed with open arms.

I dont get why people are up in arms about this.

Why punish the Muslim community for something that a few individuals did?

So, now, it's victimization?????

Perhaps if, "the Muslims community", would police up their own kind, ther wouldn't be any need for punishing them. Maybe?

I sincerely doubt the intent of the Muslims is to offend. It is NYC. You have to take what land you can get in the best location you can get for the best price you can get. They probably hoped nobody would notice.

So by your thinking, perhaps Christians should never, ever be allowed near children?

Why is it their job to police their own "kind"? And how do you expect them to do it?

If they're not going to do it, then it's left up to the rest of us to do it. Yes?

I dont see what this has to do with opening a mosque near ground zero.

Also, out of curiosity, there was an initiative a while back for a national reporting system (I cant remember if it was under Bush or Obama) whereby citizens were encouraged to report suspicious behavior....and people were up in arms about that. Why is THAT not ok but expecting the Muslim community to police itself is?

How do you figger that?

Because some Christian priests molest children. Therefore, all Christians should have a two-block restraining order from children. Kinda like the "no-mosque zone" you seem to support because some Muslims happened to cause harm.

edit for clarification:

Your idea, in short:

SOME Muslims caused harm therefore we should take away rights from ALL Muslims near the area where that harm was caused.
