Transexual Loses Bid For State-Paid Breast Enlargements

Yeah. Can you imagine what it would be like to grow up as one gender, but always feel like a different gender and feel disgusted by your own body? It's not as easy as you think.
If psychological problems were easy to deal with, they wouldn't be problems.

i don't care if you're 300lbs of harry machismo, when i throe you into the kitchen, put you in a dress and bend you over, you're a "her" regardless :2wave:

rotflmfao...

.

If you knew what all people go through to have a change of sex, you would realize it is more than this. It takes an incredible amount of personal bravery to go through it all.

About as much bravery as someone going through plastic surgery.

I'm not going to reward someone with a clear emotional issue by rewarding their psychological condition and pretending its normal.

Not as silly as calling a man a woman.

Sex v. gender.

It's called "gender reassignment", not "sex-reassignment".

Yes, s/he's still a man biologically, but that's "sex".

S/he assumes the roll of a woman, thus is a "her" for all intents and purposes regarding "gender".

Now stop this silliness or I shale smite you a second timeah!

There is a great deal more to it than simple plastic surgery. The hormone treatments leading up to the surgery can be incredibly stressful in themselves.

Sorry. Born with Big Jim and the Twins? You're a dude. Don't care how many surgeries you've been through.

I don't see why "bravery" is relevant? There are many things I can think of that require an "incredible amount of personal bravery" -- some I celebrate, some I despise.

In English we use the pronoun "she" to indicate a feminine gender, so it seems appropriate.

There are many things people can do to their bodies that are painful. Its justifying rewarding that psychological condition that makes no sense.

Like I said... a man with mutilated genitals and a hormone dependency.

Or if it makes some ppl feel better...

An incredibly brave man with mutilated genitals and a hormone dependency. ;)

When you're talking about "sex", absolutely.

Gender has nothing to do with your physical sex.

You can't change your gender with surgery. Your biological makup cannot be changed no matter how you justify it in your mind.

In the process of assuming the other gender, transsexuals have to accomplish various steps in living as that gender. One step is coming out at work. Yes, that takes an incredible amount of bravery.

T'is true, otherwise the Olympics would allow transtesticles and those that had reverse add-a-dick-to-me's compete against women.

WTF is going on with your avatar?

It's a picture from a Russian artist friend of mine who made it in tribute to the recent subconjunctival hemorrhage in my right eye.

An excellent point.

That's correct. I suppose I didn't make myself clear enough when I agreed with you last time. No surgery changes your genetic make up. If you were born with 2 chromosomes, no surgery can ever change that. Your sex is your birth sex regardless.

What I'm trying to clarify is that your biological make up is not what "he" and "her" refer to. Those terms refer not your sex, but to your gender.

Sex and gender are not synonyms of each other. They are very different things.

Out of respect I haven't linked the dictionary definitions of those terms, but if you would like I would be happy to post them if you think it would help the discussion.

Essentially, when people call a tranny "her", they are not referring to "her" born biological sex. They are referring to "her" roll in relation to everyone else.

If psychological problems were easy to deal with, they wouldn't be problems.

All this guarantees is that you've never met anyone who's been through it.

One conversation with one person who's made it out the other side and you'd change your tune.

My friend Kimberly is changing the world and she is the bravest human being I know who isn't a soldier.

If you'd watch her movie, Prodigals Sons, you'd recognize how human transgendered people are.

Now, the state shouldn't pay for their breast augmentations, as the one in the OP suggests - but it's not necessary to denigrate people you don't understand just because it amuses or disgusts you.

Sex reassignment surgery is the recommended treatment for Gender Identity Disorder and all patients must undergo one year of psychological treatment to make sure that there are no additional mental disorders before they are allowed to have the surgery.
