Obama gets an earful in clash with GOP senators

The president walked into a remarkably contentious 80-minute session Tuesday in which GOP senators accused him of duplicity, audacity and unbending partisanship. Lawmakers said the testy exchange left legislative logjams intact, and one GOP leader said nothing is likely to change before the November elections.

Obama's sharpest accuser was Bob Corker of Tennessee, a first-term senator who feels the administration undermined his efforts to craft a bipartisan financial regulation bill.

"I told him I thought there was a degree of audacity in him even showing up today after what happened with financial regulation," Corker told reporters. "I just wanted him to tell me how, when he wakes up in the morning, comes over to a luncheon like ours today, how does he reconcile that duplicity?"
    Yeah baby... that's the spirit.

How does Obama reconcile that duplicity?
    Easy...
Years of practice... years of others fawning over the guy.
Years of others clearing the field for him.

He's an expert at it, but unfortunately he has nowhere to hide anymore.
The game is up. It's great to see R's go in and give him the dope straight.

5 bucks he was bust'in for a smoke after that session.

So you're against Obama for being duplicitous for not being bipartisan, unlike Bush, who was openly not being bipartisan?

LOL...THIS from the "Party of NO".

Perhaps the Republicans wouldn't have to bitch and whine so much if they actually tried to engage in true bi-partisanship rather than simply saying NO to everything.

    BreitBart is now MSM?

    I see.

I thought there was going to be an effort around here to give the BN - MSM forum some credibility?

    So much for that.

I wish Bush was partisan, but he went to the sharks with Kennedy on the education bill right off the bat. Post 911 he had one major focus... our safety.

He took a lot of crap and didn't fire back. Considering we were at war, I'm sure he never thought our political opposition would behave so poorly.

He didn't come out and piss on the opposition or Clinton (except for a sideswipe one time saying he wouldn't fire 10 million dollar rockets into a hillside to hit a camel in the ass).

Bush got crapped on in ways Obama could never dream of, and you only heard him say the darts were part of the role of an open press.

    WOW....that's a good one.

Yeah...he was so "Focused " on our safety that he chose to take his eye of our attackers and instead shift his focus to fight an imperialist neo-con war that Rumsfield and Cheney had been trying for 3 decades to convince an administration to pursue.

Even GWB's father wasn't dumb enough to buy into Rumsfield's war...but W was.

I don't think "Safety" was what GWB/Rumsfield/Cheney were going after...if it were, they would have kept their "focus" on the people who attacked us, rather than try to manipulate the publics fears to justify invading Iraq.

Yup.... or a toke, maybe a line or two.

He can't go slap Michelle, she'd kick his ass.

With the possibility of a filibuster on any legislation Barry or the dems want to pass, he better get used to this kind of treatment. He and his congress ran roughshod over the Republicans for long enough that they have no bitch coming.

Re: Obama gets an earful in clash with GOP senators

And the other side's way to spin it:

"I felt like there was a degree of audacity in him being there today, after passing his third large partisan bill," Corker told me, insisting Republicans had been stiff-armed by the White House on financial reform, health care, and the stimulus.

"I told him I felt like a prop afer the actions they had taken regarding bipartisanship," Corker said. "It hit a nerve."

Corker added that Obama came back at him with "quite a lengthy response," but he declined to share what, precisely, the president said
'Quite a lengthy response' probably meaning he tore into the Republicans for their bull**** attitudes.

    Moderator's Warning:
Obama gets an earful in clash with GOP senatorsOnly going to say this once because I'm tired of seeing the bait for derail thrown in threads over and over again.

Yahoo, Brietbart, HuffPo and others are firmly legitimate in MSM IF they are simply reposting an AP piece and its clearly denoted that its an AP piece. Such as this one.

If you think something violates the rules, REPORT IT. Otherwise focus on the topic, not playing mod or complaining about mod action.

I'm unsure you realize what "true bi-partisanship" is Disney. There's been no attempts at it. The only times the Democrats have compromised on much of anything recently has been because they had to do it to get THEIR OWN PARTY.

The Health Care Bill? Go look at what initially was being pushed. There was no desire for bipartisanship in it. The only reason it came out as the watered down version it is now wasn't because of any attempts at "bipartisanship" but rather the only way they could get all the members from their own party to vote for the bill. They made their bed on that one running the blue dogs to try and grab seats. If every blue dog was a Pelosi Democrat instead we'd have seen that original bill pushed through pretty much.

The vast majority of tokens that people point out as being "bi-partisan" in nature have came about either because A) they needed it to get their own party to vote for it or B) they needed it so Obama can claim to keeping a campaigh promise.

"Bi-partisanship" is NOT "Pass this with the 90% we want and we'll throw you a bone with 5% we don't want and 5% reduced from what we want". "Bi-Partisanship" isn't "Look, we made this more watered down for our more conservative Democrats, so you all should just go along with it too".
