BP Oil Spill: Gov. Jindal Asks for Permission to Build Barrier Islands

As thick oil flows into the sensitive marshes of the Louisiana coast, Gov. Bobby Jindal called on the White House and BP today to either stop the oil spill or get out of his way.

Gov. Bobby Jindal warns BP and the White House to help or get out of his way.Jindal is still waiting for the federal government to provide millions of feet in boom and to approve an emergency permit for a state plan to dredge and build new barrier islands to keep the oil from reaching the marshes and wetlands.

Jindal is so desperate for the islands, he's said he'll build them even if it sends him to jail.

Day 36, and Mr. President has not responded. I guess he's too busy planning on skipping the memorial day service at arlington to vacay in chi-town..... :ssst:

Seriously though. If this is not the ghosts of Katrina, you all have lost your mind. Jindal is at his wits end waiting for federal permission to build barrier islands that he's willing to risk jail time...

Why is Obama not responding to this?

Sadly, nothing Obama does ( or doesn't do ) surpises me anymore. We are entering hurricane season. Will it become a more pronounced issue when storm surge threatens to push the oil into the city waterworks of New Orleans?

rather than say he is willing to go to jail for going ahead and doing what he thinks is needed maybe he should go ahead and actually do what he thinks is needed

there is no time to request permission; if he ****s up then he will need to ask forgiveness for trying to do the right thing. some governor. thinks he needs to ask somebody if it's OK to do what needs to be done to help his people

Funny, I don't remember you saying this about naggins and blanco... Perhaps you have a link. :ssst:

where were naggins and blanco going to send the residents of new orleans to get them out of harm's way?
who was going to drive them there?

:failpail:

Its filling

where were the drivers?
more importantly, where was the destination for them to stay?

Are people under the impression that everything done by the government anywhere is personally decided by the president?

The likely scenario is someone in the appropriate department (god I don't even know which that would be) looked at the idea and said "What? No, that's a stupid idea and you're a stupid person" and threw it in the trash.

He's only the president for heavens sake...what do you expect him to do...actually LEAD??? Silly silly person...

 It wasn't my responsibility to maintain this contigency plan that called for naggins to make sure drivers would be available.

Again. funny how hypocritical some are.

This is kinda a strawman. One that the obvious answer is "who does the buck stop with"?

where were the drivers?
Most were smarter than the politicians paid to answer such questions. They left before the evacuation was made mandatory. Had the politicians not sat on their thumbs for so long...

IF that is your position then what the hell was ANYONES beef regarding Bush's response in NOLA? What was he supposed to do...piggy back them out and put him in a tent on the ol ranch?

One MIGHT think that the NOLA and La officials might have used that 12 million dollars in federal disaster preparedness money to actually develop a PLAN. After all...you will remember the mayor and his staff seemed to be able to bug out just fine.

And I seem to recall a yard full of something like 6-700 school buses...

I think the problem is it would require another No-Bid Contract to a certain company loved by Libs. (and because he and his crew are largely clueless)

I think Obi's trying to find out if the French, Haitians, Uzbeks, Tibetan Monks, Russian Oligarchs, Kanuckistani's, or Venezualans can do it... anybody but the H-word.

He's still in hot water for the last No-Bid.

so, you finally realize that having a bunch of buses wasn't the solution
gotta have a destination to take those who are seeking to leave
gotta have the means to do so
and you question why nagins didn't have such means
in contrast, we have jindal who has a plan, but he awaits permission to do what he thinks needs to be done
that is not leadership
that is being a toady republican

you also might think that the corps of engineers, responsible for establishing and maintaining the levee system, would actually build and maintain one that was designed to do the job
YouTube- when the levee breaks/led zeppelin

Yeah...THATS the stuff your city is supposed to have coordinated. thats why the city officials and disaster prep guys get paid...

So basically instead of just saying go hang out at the superdome...and good luck y'all...Ima be chillin in Houston...maybe Chocolate Mayor Nagin should have heeded the evac orders two days earlier and started the caravans to higher ground.

Look at what you are writing...

"Golly...what could Nagin and Blanco POSSIBLY have done to protect their people?" and then in virtually the same breath...Governor Jindahl should be building Islands dammit!

which...BTW...I agree with...Jindahl SHOULD be building the islands...(and tell the fed to kiss his and his states ass). I just also happen to blame Nagin and Blanco for the NOLA mess.

He is waiting for what should be a swift reply from Obi.
Problem is, Obi's crew is a bunch of lawyers most likely trying to find out how they can bring Jindal down.

Jindal said he'd act and go to jail. That ain't toady.
It's poetry.

It tells the world what Americans have come to learn in the past months and what many R's knew from the start... that Obi is incompetent.

In way over his head.
Our enemies must be watching this and howling with laughter at President Urkel... our Boy Wonder.

You really need to pay attention.

There was a plan, there were buses. Naggins failed on all levels.

You partisan hack, like others, base your feigned outrage on party, not reality.

gotta have a destination to take those who are seeking to leave
gotta have the means to do so
How about Destination: GTFO?

I mean seriously, these aren't very difficult questions. Coordinating transportation isn't rocket science.

Sure...throw that in the mix. The had decades and plenty of money. So the corps failed...the city officials failed MASSIVELY and the governor did nothing, but libs stand by the "it was all Bush's fault" line. You GET the stupidity behind that kind of rhetoric...right?

yes, a mayor is supposed insist other cities and states agree to accept and provide for his poor citizens as they flee a storm
stunning that you would believe this is within a mayor's authority

rather than say he is willing to go to jail for doing the right thing
maybe he should instead just do the right thing

You really need to pay attention.

You partisan hack, like others, base your feigned outrage on party, not reality.

you acknowledge that there was no identified destination to take them to but you still think having driverless buses was the answer to the problem
so, you get the fleeing residents on the buses and what then

How about Destination: GTFO?

then tell us, einstein, where were the fleeing residents going to go
