SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Tensions deepened Thursday on the Korean peninsula as South Korea accused North Korea of firing a torpedo that sank a naval warship, killing 46 sailors in the country's worst military disaster since the Korean War.

President Lee Myung-bak vowed "stern action" for the provocation following the release of long-awaited results from a multinational investigation into the March 26 sinking near the Koreas' tense maritime border. North Korea, reacting swiftly, called the results a fabrication, and warned that any retaliation would trigger war. It continued to deny involvement in the sinking of the warship Cheonan.

"If the (South Korean) enemies try to deal any retaliation or punishment, or if they try sanctions or a strike on us .... we will answer to this with all-out war," Col. Pak In Ho of North Korea's navy told broadcaster APTN in an exclusive interview in Pyongyang.

Where's the administration on this? Where's Obama condemning this action that killed 46? I'll tell you where, kissing Calderon's arse that's where! :doh

What a weak coward Obama is.

Clinton pushes for North Korea sanctions over ship's sinking - Los Angeles Times

Reporting from Washington and Seoul — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton opened a U.S. campaign Friday for international measures to punish North Korea for the sinking of a South Korean warship, but it was unclear how receptive Pyongyang's benefactors in China — or even its rival South Korea — would be. Clinton began an Asian tour making it clear that the Obama administration wants the United Nations to take action against North Korea for sinking the patrol boat Cheonan in March, killing 46 South Korean crew members.

We probably need to pause at least long enough to see how this plays out in the next few days. Hillary has taken a public stand "demanding international action" (whatever the hell that means) and NK appears to be calling her bluff.

Should be an interesting standoff.....

ain't that swell? Sanctions.....What the heck will that do? NOTHING! They killed 46 people without provocation. And then warned that even sanctions would lead to war....I suspect that the cowards at the UN will water it down to yet another strongly worded letter......

Given Obamas foreign policy decisions to date, I don't expect him to do much of anything beyond a 'harsh rebuke' and maybe some sanctions (that will accomplish little except perhaps provoke another Kim Jong tantrum).

Are you advocating full scale war with North Korea? Who is going to fight that war?

Of course if the UN does impose sanctions on North Korea the far left will start crying about all the Korean children that are starving because of us.

Why are we wanting full scale war with North Korea? I say lets wait, and see how this plays out, before we start another war. :2wave:

Am guessing that unless China decides they want to give NK a swat on the ass, nothing of substance is going to come in the way of punishment.

You make the assumption he cannot do two things at once, and the assumption that just because you have not heard an official reaction, it means things are not being done. Making assumptions will almost always lead you astray.

China is in an awkward position. On one hand they don't want sanctions to weaken North Korea because they share a border. On the otherhand China does literally 100 times the economic business with South Korea than is does with North Korea. Eventually they're going to have to choose a side.

North Korea is a two year old throwing a massive tantrum because it wants attention. The best response is giving as little attention as possible.

the United States responding to North Korea sinking a South Korean ship is us starting a war?

The danger of a rogue regime having nukes is that they can do things like this (sinking of the South Korean ship) with relative impunity.

I don't advocate attacking North Korea but I don't understand your logic about how if the US assists an ally against another country that attacked it that such an action would equate to us starting a war??

Ass kissing would be a nice way of saying it. I prefer the term salad tossing(anal oral sex). As long as China backs North Korea the US can't really do anything, even if we did not have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and last I check north Korea had the 5th largest army in the world. So that probably explains why Obama didn't say anything.

The bolded part of your statement I couldn't agree more with. China is too much of a short and long term threat to not do what they want. However the fact that North Korea has the 5th largest military doesn't really scare me. They wont hurt us. As "crazy" as KJI is he still believes in sovereignty and hegemony and that is why he wont attack the US. Don't forget who has the largest military in the world...

If you can't do anything, don't say anything. Just smile and wave and wait for your opportunity.

Uhm, I didn't direct my quote towards you and you obviously took it out of context. Re-read the discussion again.

How many wars do you want to fight at one time? How much do you want to increase taxes to pay for them?

North Korea has ten or eleven nuclear weapons and are crazy enough to use them. I don't think a knee jerk reaction is prudent right now.
