Firstly, this sort of stuff has been happening for years. Take the Pueblo, or the DPRK's tunnel under the DMZ in 1978, for instance.

Secondly, everyone realises that civilian casualties would be immense. The huge destabilisation that would come from removing the current North Korean regime would be an absolute nightmare for all parties involved. The North might be crazy enough to start a war, but that's unlikely, and the West certainly isn't. Which is why the U.S. has to try to pacify this puerile regime through the lure of more foreign aid.
This is the perfect time for North Korea though. The world's economy sucks and the US forces are tied down in other areas of the world.

Could you imagine if this had happened to the U.S, Great Britain etc.? The North threatening all out war if the South retaliates and then the South doing nothing will inevitably lead to more threats and blackmail by force.

I'm by no means a warmonger, and understand the consequences if war were to break out in Korea. I just don't know how a country can let the death of 46 servicemen occur without repercussions.

Is there any word as to whether there is a national outcry, or call to arms over this?
One word. China. That one word will let North Korea get off scott-free.

And there must not be any phones are communication equipment to make his desires known, and no advisers keeping him up to date on the issue. I mean, if he had those things, it would make your complaint meaningless...

Yeah! And look at all of those press conferences he's held on this issue and oh so many others!

Not giving a press conference on it means he is neglecting it?
