PHILADELPHIA Ė U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter on Tuesday was defeated in a Democratic primary in his bid for a sixth term after taking the risky step of switching from the GOP.

Voters picked U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak as the party's nominee and rejected the 80-year-old Specter in his first Democratic campaign.

With 65 percent of precincts reporting, Sestak received 339,402 votes, nearly 53 percent. Specter received 304,179 votes, about 47 percent.

Awesome doesn't even begin to describe this.

    Next stop: McCain

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

Good news. Specter was always a Republican. I'm glad to see the Democrats boot him for a real Democrat.

There's no difference between electing a Republican and electing a Republican pretending to be a Democrat.

Excellent. I'm glad to see the Democrats have a spine and boot the Republican out of office.
Sestak is running much stronger in head to head against the Republican.

Finally the Democrats are growing a spine.

Sestak is a 3-star Admiral. He's got an interesting story.

    As did Specter.

    I would've voted for Sestak.

If anyone has seen "Mongol" then we should treat traitors, regardless of whom they betrayed, the same way.

No matter what you feel about his politics-- you have to respect Specter's fight against cancer.

I heard him tell his story in Stern and it was amazing how he fought back.

Indeed! I'm glad the Democrats of Pennsylvania didn't buy his turn of coat. From what I've read of Sestak, he's a good guy.
I don't attack my constituents. Bob is my constituent now.
This is the important stuff. We canít get lost in discrimination. We canít get lost in B.S. We canít get lost tearing each other down. I want to make a point here that no matter what you look like, where you come from, how you worship, who you love, how you identify, and yeah, how you run, that if you have good public policy ideas, if you are well qualified for office, bring those ideas to the table, because this is your America, too. This is our commonwealth of Virginia, too.
