Nothing much is going to happen. Just about everyone is congress is guilty of some sorts of bribery, although it is more commonly known as lobbying.

That's the reason this country is so ****ed up.

it's the most pressing question most informed americans think of when they see the admiral's name or face

pretty hard to stay on message, ie, campaign, with so major and negative a distraction

that's why men like DICK DURBIN call it out as a PROBLEM that begs SOLVING

    it is what it is

    happy campaigning, all

That's me. It's Monroe County though, not Monroe Township.

Well, I do mostly criminal defense work, but also some personal injury. I also teach a seminar on Constitutional Law at the local college every now and then.

Politically - it really doesn't make a difference if this is a felony or a misdemeanor. It's all bad for both the WH and Sestak and it's a matter of damage control and information control.

Legally, if it's identified and verified through an investigation that an offer was indeed made, the legal fallout will be negligible, the political fallout could be massive. The worse someone can be charged with are multiple counts of violations --- which are identified as up to 1 year in jail, a fine, or both.
Which is the definition of a misdemeanor, as I stated earlier. Not a felony, despite what some anonymous people here may think.

I didn't look much but there's not much case law around Chapt 29, Sec. 600 --- most of it's local and State. I think the worst case scenario will be Sestak bails out and some low level falls on the sword for the White House --- or they continue to cover up and do not volunteer information until served with a subpoena.
    I agree.

Right now, as I said, it doesn't look like anything serious, and certainly is how Washington has worked for ages. That doesn't mean it couldn't get more serious if more information came out.

But to claim that this is a felony and that people are going to jail and so on is ridiculous at this point.

"fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both" = misdemeanor.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Re: Specter rejected by Pa. Dems in bid for 6th term

utter incompetence is what fed this story from its inception

Gibbs: 'I'd refer you to the memo' | POLITICO 44

question tossed by white house press corps: have you kept us in the dark about this incident?

press secty gibbs: i can "understand" how you feel that way

question: why were you so quiet so long?

gibbs: "i'd have to ask counsel for a better answer"

question: the memo says multiple offers, june and july, was it clinton both times?

gibbs: "whatever's in the memo is accurate, i'll check"

question: isn't service on the intel advisory board forbidden for sitting house members?

gibbs: "i'd refer you to the memo"

gibbs: "it was an unpaid position and didn't constitute a lot of what you hear"

    huh?

you cannot talk to the press corps like that

the sheer stupidity is trumped only by the arrogance

they'll take stupidity, they'll cover for you

    but arrogance...

you don't talk to the cbs like that

the prez has lost the press, his coverage is universal catastrophic

he and his team are comprehensively incompetent, day after dismal day

this is not what you voted for

    sorry

Prof -- this is the Obama Administration we're talking about here. Of course Gibbs can talk to the Press Corps like that... Gibbs owns the Press Corps. Until the Press Corps stops the protectionism and goes after the story, nothing will change. While the questions have gotten a bit tougher, these folks are absolute wussies.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

every headline is negative, every headline is huge

THE NEWS is just killing this guy

he's treated the press corps like crap

when's the last time you saw a positive story about, oh, say, health care?

they're gone, and it's gonna get a lot worse

you can't treat the washington press corps the way you do the editorial staffs of the sun times and trib

he's gonna get savaged this summer over the gulf, iran, the mexican drug cartels

if anything happens on the parallel, if israel is forced to take unilateral action, if anything goes down in times square or a movie theater in garden city, kansas...
