What exactly is the controversy here? I don't understand.

Someone was offered a job so they wouldn't run? That happens all the time, and it's not illegal. Even Bush's lawyer wrote about this recently and said it happened in the Bush administration.

Another grasp at straws, if you ask me.

I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on whats being proposed here, hed agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute. - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.

Besides a blatant bribery attempt (felony), Obama ran a campaign espousing ethics and tranparency in his administration.

As it has turned out, the only thing actually transparent is his, and his cabals agenda, and the lengths folks like you will go to defend them.

The fact remains that this has been done many times before, including by Republican presidents. Of course, that never gets any of you interested, does it? It's only a terrible crime if a Democrat does it.

Oh and it's a misdemeanor, not a felony. At least get your facts right before you get all red in the face.

The fact is that this is a gray area; he was offered a job he was qualified for, and he didn't accept, and no money changed hands and no threats were made. It's not clear that rises to the level required by the statute.

Here's another article giving a pretty clear analysis, pointing out the pros and cons of such legal action:

This episode of bribery can indeed be prosecuted as a felony

Please provide any proof of that statement.

Ah, so you have no proof, I take it? Especially since the law itself says it is a misdemeanor?

Look, as an attorney, I look to the law. I don't see it. I've read blogs and reports from other lawyers. They don't see it.

Now of course the right wing blogs are pissing themselves in excitement over this, but all the sources I've reviewed are not political and they don't see it.

If, of course, more evidence comes out that there was something else going on, I might be willing to change my view. If a special prosecutor is appointed and finds something, then there's probably something, I agree.

It seems to me that the only bias we are seeing here is coming from the right who have convicted everyone involved without having seen a bit of evidence. I am saying that there isn't enough yet -- a view apparently shared by everyone who isn't looking for everything they can to attack the President.

"Please provide any proof of that statement", defender of the indefensible.
