Violence occurs everywhere, Kenya is actually one of the safer countries in Africa, and you don't just need to demonstrate that there is violence but that you have specifically been singled out for persecution.

    Asylum from what?

    Two possible options:

Asylum to escape the loud and constant laughter and subtle amusement of her neighbors at the expense of her grandson.

Asylum to escape the fawning and constant (not to mention effusive and verbose) praise directed at her grandson…which she is tired of hearing.

In all seriousness, how the hell would we know?

Actually, I can make an educated guess as to why she was granted asylum. Islamic fundies in Kenya hate the US, and if Obama's aunt was forced to live there, I bet she would be the number one target for them, because of being related to the head of state of the country they hate the most.

In that context, I understand why she was given asylum. It would be a very legitimate reason. But let's not let that stand in the way of our political witch hunting.

Indeed, the mouth frothers always love it when they have a politico from the other side between a rock and a hard place. Obama would have been damned if he had forced her to go back and is being damned now because she got to stay. Whatever.

Once you realize the hard place is all in their heads, you will understand the conservative mind.

obama's half brother george lives in a shack in kenya on about 12 dollars a year

you'd think barry could mail him at least as much as he gives sasha and malia for an allowance

    Re: Obama's aunt granted asylum

i was really touched by this associated press story about obama's aunt in the weeks before christmas

Nation & World | AP Exclusive: Obama aunt anguished by separation | Seattle Times Newspaper

she's "anguished" over her "separation" from the prez, aunt zeituni "buries her face in her hands and sobbed" cuz she fears her "immigration woes have made her a political liability to her nephew"

"she's disabled and learning to walk again after being paralyzed for more than 3 months" due to guillain-barre

barack, michelle and the kids are her only family in america

her teeny public housing apartment is practically a shrine to barack with photos of them together in springfield where she felt more free to visit him

    she obviously loves him

she also adores bush who once did her a kindness

"he is my number one man in my life because he helped me when i really needed that help," she emotes

barack, meanwhile, announced he didn't know she was here illegally

she also goes out of her way to defend barack's father who has been labelled abusive by a half brother

everyone slapped kids, she rationalizes, he had trouble with alcohol

he was strict but not abusive

she lived with barack's dad for a time, it appears, and helped raise the president's half siblings

heck, one of US should take her in if barack doesn't

    have a heart

    Re: Obama's aunt granted asylum

If she was denied asylum before I would like to know what changed to allow her to stay.

Hew long lost nephew being president is not enough to reverse the decision.

Now why hasn't she had to pay legally for her being in this country after the decision to deport her?
