Parents at Coconut Grove Elementary School are calling for the ouster of Principal Eva N. Ravelo this week after she told a parent in an e-mail to ``eat sh-- and die.''

The controversy, which is now under review by the school district's central office, started Monday. Abigail DuBearn, a member of the school's Educational Excellence School Advisory Committee, or EESAC, had asked Ravelo and other council members whether student representatives of the committee ``could be notified today and be invited to attend and participate'' at Monday's meeting.

Ravelo, 45, then replied to DuBearn's e-mail with the message: ``Advise her to eat sh-- and die.'' Ravelo spelled the swear word like it appears here -- without the last two letters.

Actually, I think this principal is doing an excellent job, because she is preparing kids for real life. The government is always pretty much telling its citizens to eat s--- and die, and what is school for? To socialize kids to fit into society, and to teach, which, of course, is what the principal is doing here.

OK, then. Would you believe...................................?

I don't think shad is the best eating fish, but unless you leave it out in the heat for a couple of days the most it ever causes is a little gas.

the principal should be mopping floors on the late shift. what a moron.

If the email wasn't intended for the recipient, and not meant as a threat, then she should get off with a reprimand.

Unfortunately, our schools are brewing cauldrons estrogen fueled emotional instability, being dominated by sometimes irrational and vengeful females. Things can get very heated between the mostly female Parent Action Committees and the mostly female staff.

When oh when are people ever going to learn to check who they are sending their emails to?

I think you left out the most important part:

That changes everything, really.

can't agree with that
she (purportedly) intended to hand off the assignment to her assistant to tell the originator to eat sh-- and die
imo that makes it worse. the message was the same; she expected to hide her actions behind the assistant
looks like the principal will soon be getting a promotion to senior administration

Clearly, if the message was intended for her assistant to pass along it would have been the assistant's job clean it up to be delivered to the representative of the students. This was obviously just a candid moment where the principle chose a rude way of saying "no" that the assistant was meant to deliver in a more diplomatic way.

So what you are saying is that the principle is a coward and needs others to do her bidding.

That does not follow from what I said. Are you sure you read what I wrote?

Reading between the lines....

DuBearn (the Parent) doesn't like or respect Ravelo (the Principal) and is constantly trying to run the school from the sidelines (EESAC?). Ravelo wasn't paying attention when she hit send and didn't realize who would be reading the email.

Ravelo should have taken a lesson from the Godfather: Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. Never let a busy-body parent know what an annoying idiot they are. You have to finesse them, play them, give them just enough to do so they think they're actually in charge of something.

My wife has been teaching for 18 years and has a graduate degree in education from USC. Every year there is one parent who thinks he/she knows better. It's usually the parent of a very difficult student who takes meds and needs special attention. News flash moms and dads--your kid is out of control because of you. Anyway, I digress...

DuBearn now has enough ammo to get Ravelo tossed out or disciplined.

Ravelo's actions are not those of an individual with the maturity to be involved in education. It's time for her termination. It is also time for her to be added to the list of people who cannot be allowed to work in education.

Why would it be the assistant's job to clean up the message if the principle is not a coward. Also, I did notice the what if scenario at the beginning.

The only thing this principal is guilty of is getting caught making the same comments we all make. Anyone who says they've never made similar, private comments to a coworker while in conflict with another coworker is lying though their teeth.

Tempest in a teapot.

i'm talking about her stupidity. aside from that, WHAT?

True, but some off us have a spine and will repaet it.

I agree, I think she hit the send button without realizing who would be receiving.

Of course, you know what Freud would say? She really wanted to be fired.

Why do you deserve to be fired?

It's one thing to vent to a coworker in private about another coworker, a client, a customer, a manager...whatever. It's a whole different animal when you can't control your mouth enough to maintain professionalism and civility in your dealings with the objects of your discontent in the workplace.

If I heard one of my guys tell another person to "eat sh-- and die" in the course of conducting business, they would no longer be working by the time the last syllable came out of their mouth.

Stupid is as stupid does and that's all I have to say about that.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't pay a bill with professionalism and civility. I have noticed that people who are cowards and talk behind people's back usually tend to be the weakest people with the most drama surrounding them. I personally love working with/for/above people that will tell me to my face what they think of me. Lets me know where we stand and it helps to get deals done much faster when we are forced to work together.

You can get your point across in a direct manner while maintaining professionalism. There is no excuse for dropping a professional demeanor while conducting business as a representative fo your organization.

None.

Yeah - people are getting dumber and dumber with our advances in technology and deeper dependence on it.

I remember always being told 'don't use your real name on the net, ever!' 'Don't reveal too much personal info about yourself, ever!' - and lo and behold - people by the thousands do it every damn day - real names, personal facts and all sorts of crap that they were told not to do.

Then their house gets broken into while they're on vacation because of a Twitter and then they can't take action because their credit is tanked due to identity theft linked to a website they divulged personal info on - and they're further tanked when their future employer looks them up by name on facebook and finds that they're a drunk and a thief.
